Franklin Square people, another Q please!

Thanks for all of your help with my other posts!

We're starting to move in this weekend, and there's so much we don't know (we've never lived anywhere other than with our parnets b4). My BIL said that in some parts of LI you need to get a resident parking sticker for the LIRR station. Is this true? I think the closest station to where we are is stewart manor, or whatever it is called. i really dont know. We have to drive around. What's the difference between garden city park (what it says on our address) and franklin square? Is there a differnece as far as residency is concerned? What are someother things you think we should know? Thanks SOOOOO much! We know nothing about this.

Re: Franklin Square people, another Q please!

I used to live in Franklin Square and my husband commuted to NYC via the Stewart Manor train station. I used to drop him off/pick him up so we never needed a permit, but YES you need a permit to park there during the week, for commuting purposes. The only exception is a few spots that don't require a permit. Those spots are the ones close to the train tracks (on the north side of the tracks) and one row in the smaller parking lot, also on the north side. On the south side of the tracks, there are only about 4 spots where you don't need a permit. The spots that don't require a permit fill up REALLY quickly... (like people who take the 5am train!) so I'd say, unless you can find someone to pick you up or take the bus, you'll need to get a permit! Ask someone on the train and they should be able to help you.

As far as the areas go, Garden City is pretty big. The area closer to Franklin Square is called Garden City Park or Garden City South (if I am remembering that correctly!). I don't think there is a big difference when it comes to residency. Your best bet for supermarkets are the King Kullen on Jericho Tpke or the Waldbaums, also on Jericho Tpke.

Have fun and good luck in your new home!!! Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Thanks so much! Now we have to figure out how to get a permit. We are right near the King Kullen, which is on NHP Rd? I don't know. We're a few blocks form St Catherine of Sienna. I honestly don't know the area at ALL. I just go there for pool stuff at island rec. So we need all the help we can get!

The King Kullen on NHP Rd is REALLY small and they don't have a lot of selection. It's great for last minute things, like if you run out of milk, but the one on Jericho Tpke is much better. Oh, there is a good pizza place in the NHP Rd shopping center, though called Vito's. DH and I used to eat there all the time. Just watch out for Sunday traffic by St. Catherine's!! It's a nightmare!

Anyone can park at the Merilon Ave. station in Garden City, but it is closer to Garden City station.
