I know its scary but dont freak out! It will only add more stress to your life. Bring positative energy towards you!
Re: Freaking out
I understand how you feel. I had an anxiety inducing conversation with my boss yesterday too (what a way to start the weekend!) and I know the company my dad works for is having a rough time too. Since we're trying to buy our own place AND pay for the wedding right now, I have no idea what we would do if I lost my job and/or if my dad did (not only for wedding-related things but also because I don't want my parents to lose their house!) I just try not to think about it.

Try to relax...much easier said than done. Maybe you can start sending out resumes just incase you are laid off. I know that a lot of companies are NOT hiring but you never know. At least you will have a jump start on the job search if the worst happends. I totally understand how you feel about the cost of the wedding-ALthough FH and I are paying for most of the wedding my parents are paying for the photographer and the Dj and my Dad was laid off a week before Christmas. I feel terrible everytime my Mom asks when the next payment for the DJ is due (which is soon)...they are worried about my wedding and I am worried that they have limited income right now.

Just be very fortunate that you have a job right now. And, just work extra hard that you stand out from the other employees. It really helps to keep your job secure. When an employer is looking to make cuts, they get rid of the employee who doesn't do the job.
Re: Freaking out
My FH found out that they're potentially cutting 90 TEACHERS in his district next year. Yeah, we're freaking out like you are. . .because he's 5th from the bottom in his department. It's his tenure year, and he's finishing up his masters in July. . .we're counting on him having a job next year (yet alone a masters degree raise) so that we can buy a house at this time next year.

Re: Freaking out
this is def something you have no control over... and truthfull, FH's job, my mother's job, and a friends' corporate job in Melville are not giving raises either... so everyone is hurting... it's not a good time for anyone... if i were you , i would think of a backup plan... do you have any other skills? would you be willing to work in a restaurant if you had to?

Re: Freaking out
don't freak out!! Think positive thoughts...................and think about your future plans. Start sending out resumes, and looking at the paper to see what else is out there, just in case. maybe it's meant to be that you look, because maybe there is something else out there for you. Maybe it's a sign, or maybe it;s not. my point is that, even though you feel like you have no control over this, you do. it depends on how you react. you have to TAKE control of this! Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to get a part time job just incase?? maybe you could find something in the paper that is part-time that is in your field? what do you do for a living? what type of company do you work for?

Re: Freaking out
First sorry that you are stressed - I think it's a very common feeling right now. The best thing you can do is try to make some plans for if it happens withouth letting yourself stress. .. I read an article that said the worst thing we can do is just stress b/c we have no control. but uncertaintly is the worst place we can be so to take some form of planning/action - like do a few job searches, you could even apply for a few jobs. . or something that feels like you have some control and HOPEFULLY you won't need it!!!
Re: Freaking out
I'm sorry! I know this is an uncertain time in a poor economy. Hopefully everything will work out!
Re: Freaking out
Dont get upset, think positive and everything will work itself out.
