freaking out.... need a place for my ceremony

well, this is my second posting...I am catholic and my fiance is jewish and we are desperately searching for a chapel to have our wedding- somewhere in queens or long island.CW Post is booked and the historical chapel was also a no! If I don't get married in a place of worship it won't be recognized by the church... Thank you all those who sent suggestions but please if anyone can HELP!! I am starting to FREAK!!

ahh..sorry..didn't realize it needed to be in a place of worship...look up in the yellow pages for a unitarian church. My cousin (protestant) and her husband (jewish) did this...I think there might be one in nassau. I'll ask her.

I don't think you're right about that. My sister is Catholic and her husband is Jewish and they got married at the reception hall. So have tons of my other friends. Look on the diocese of rockville centre's website...it's a written rule that they must allow interfaith marriages in the reception hall. Father Lisante is a really young, cool priest that specializes in Interfaith marriages. He personalizes ceremonies and is absolutely amazing. I'd contact him.

No need to 'freak out'. As Susie Q. said, you do not need to get married in a 'place of Worship' to have your marriage recognized by the Church. You DO need to get dispensation in two forms. 1) to marry a Non-Baptized person 2) to marry in a place other than the Church. I`m getting married at my reception hall. FYI Catholics are NOT permitted to marry outdoors. I got dispensation, and FI and I went to Interfaith Pre-Cana which is required. I actually called Fr. Lisante who was not available for my date but I got a wonderful Priest from a RC Church in Seaford who is co-officiating w/ a Rabbi. Go to your Priest (with FI) and start the dispensation process - it`s painless! :) Good luck!

Kathi is right - you do not need to get married in a place of worship in order for it to be recognized by the Church. I'm Jewish and my now-husband is Catholic. We got married at our reception site (Crest Hollow), and all we needed was the two dispensations that Kathi mentioned. It went smoothly. And, just so you know, some priests will even marry you outdoors (ours would have, but it was raining, so we ended up indoors). It was beautiful. Good luck with all of your planning!!!

Lauren, Who was the priest??? I've been trying to find a priest to bend the rules and marry me outside. I was told that any priest that would do that is 'shady.' these CATHOLIC RULES are driving me CRAZY@

The priest was Father Donald Babinski, of Rockville Centre. His phone number is 516-352-2127. He was really sweet, and gentle. He had us write paragraphs about each other that we sent directly to him (and didn't show to each other), and then he read them during the ceremony. It was quite emotional!!!
