Are there any places that do free makeup trials? If you suggest a makeup counter, please specify which one (mac etc.) and a contact. Thanks!

Re: Free Makeup Trials
I believe MAC does free make-up trials and then they try to get you to buy some products. I don't think that's a bad deal, I personally like their make-up. I mostly use their eye shadows.

Does MAC do free trials at their makeup counters at macys, nordstroms, bloomingdales etc. or only in their main store in roosevelt field?

I'm not sure. I made an appointment at the MAC store in the Walt Whitman mall for my E-pics. It's closer to my house.

Re: Free Makeup Trials
If you HAVE to buy their products, then buy them and don't open the packaging, and return them a few days later.
I have a makeup trial included in the package with my makeup/hair artist. If you have that also, you could schedule you trial right before your e-pics.

I don't think you HAVE TO but, I guess it's kind of expected. I'm not 100% sure though. My sister has gotten her make-up done and bought stuff and so did a my friend. Sorry I don't have definitive answers

Re: Free Makeup Trials
I would be getting the trial done the same day as my e-pics, so i guess it would probably be smart to buy the lip gloss and mascara etc. that they use to do touch ups throughout the shoot.

Re: Free Makeup Trials
You definitely have to buy 4 PRODUCTS at the Mac Counter but ladies BEWARE-if they ask you to try on false lashes during your trial, they will charge you for them!

That's what I did too I had an appt with M I A (not from B R I D A L L O U N G E ). She was very good but very expensive to use...$175 to come to me on the day of and $125 for each BM!!!!! . I don't know if they all charge the same or not. Needless to say I didn't use her because of her prices...when you make an appt, make sure you ask how much they charge beforehand. The word is that they ask you to buy $50 worth of products but I don't know if they can actually hold you to that or not!!!

Re: Free Makeup Trials
Trials at places like MAC are free, but you have to buy $50 worth of product. And if you decide to book with them the day of the wedding, the girls are usually also freelance makeup artists and they can have high rates.

Re: Free Makeup Trials
Please don't hate me for this, but I worked at a makeup counter for years. The commission rate at many counters is three percent. Meaning the sales person just earned $1.50 in the hour they did your makeup, if you buy 50 dollars of product. To make a living at that job you need to sell a lot more than that each hour. They are happy to demonstrate products, show you how to put them on yourself, but it's not their job to be a free makeup artist. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed picking out products for brides, and would always take a few minutes extra to help them know what to do. If you are going to do this, pick a quiet time of day, not during free gift promotions, and let them know what you need and what your budget is. Counters do have special events with non-commission makeup artists who come in on certain dates. Those events would be a much better chance to get a free makeup trial.

Re: Free Makeup Trials
hey there :) makeup artist here :) first, for the poster of this - it really is hard to find a 'free' makeup trial...u can try sephora or ulta but i'm not even sure about that. I do know of some artists who are under $50 which is pretty good...i believe denise from angel eyes is only $40 for a trial and she does a beautiful job...
now girls.. Just wanted to throw out a thought to u ladies and i'm kinda seeing that it was mentioned earlier....i see that a lot of u are mentioning 'well they try to make u purchase', 'just buy it and return it later', etc. etc. etc., and i just have to say - try to have a heart with this. Yes - most counters will ask for a purchase of 3items or a certain dollar amount... As an artist, we really do take the time with our brides...usually at LEAST a full hour or more(when regular appts. are a strict 30min. slot)...that means we're taking away from our own sales, business, and clients in order to spend time with you, tend to your needs & help u find a look for your wedding day. If u do intend on just pretending like ur gonna buy but not really buy, like the above poster said, try to go mid week in the afternoon when it's not so busy or even be upfront about it & tell the artist first...and unless u absolutely hated ur artist & the job that they did, please PLEASE - dont 'buy the product & return it later '....it's unkind, rude & disrespectful to say the least...its better just not to buy. i can't tell u how many little 16year olds do this at prom season..its immature. is it really that big a deal to pick up a lip gloss & two eyeshadows??? i dont mean to sound blunt at all - it just is what it is and it irks me to no end to see girls post stuff like this because it's my job. i dont even work on strict commission and it bothers me because it messes with my weekly sales goals. so please, think of ur own job and think of how u can somehow relate...u wouldn't want someone faking u out or messing with ur pay. if someone comes in & is upfront & tells me from the get-go 'listen i can't really buy today' i respect them so much more...i understand because i was a bride! but when people come in & act all sweet & nice and lead u on while u spend hours with them...and then walk away or return stuff days later?? it just su cks thats all. vent over

Re: Free Makeup Trials
I'm not a real makeup artist, but I can understand where these other ladies are coming from. I do all kinds of girlfriend get togethers (makeovers, skin care and spa care) and I never require that people buy anything (it's always free), but it always seems that they do buy. What I have found is that when women are told they HAVE to do something, we might not be as responsive as when we're invited together for a fun night...that's usually when women end up buying!
