Freezing top tier of cake for first anniversary??? w/ poll
Just wondering if any of you ladies will be taking part in this tradition. Take the poll if you get a chance and let us know why or why not or share another idea!! TIA Meg
How to freeze the top tier of your wedding cake
Many couples choose to follow the tradition of saving the top tier of the wedding cake to enjoy on their first anniversary. Savoring a slice of the wedding cake on your anniversary will provide you with an unmatched opportunity to reminisce about the many memories created on your big day. Here are some tips on freezing and tasting your reserved cake top.
After the reception refrigerate the top tier overnight to firm up the icing. Wrap the entire cake tightly with plastic, making sure to reduce all air bubbles. Put cake in cake box (provided) and wrap the outside of the cake box with plastic. Put entire wrapped box in freezer
Helpful hints when ready to eat preserved wedding cake
Remove plastic from the box and cake.
Thaw cake in refrigerator for at least 2 hours. Remove cake from refrigerator and leave at room temperature for 2 more hours. Slice and enjoy.

I'm not. I don't have enough room in any of my freezers and I don't want to eat old cake. Instead, we are going to go to the RH's restaurant for dinner on our anniversary.

I'm superstitious and would be afraid not to... I'll try at least 1 bite for tradition's sake...

I really really want to do it but FH thinks its nasty- so we'll probably do it & just defrost it and look at it (terrible waste of cake!)

I tried this... and i failed miserably. It wouldn't defrost for the life of me. It was actually kind of funny because we were excited to cut the cake... and every so often i would go inside to see if i could slice it... and nothing. We ended up having a cake full of spatula marks.
So we stared at it for a while... and then tossed it. We bought a mini cake and celebrated.

I had thought the same thing but figure its worth a try. I would love to try and vacuum seal it but it would probably squish the life out of it

It will probably taste better than all of our regular cakes after a year!

My initial thought was Awww we should...then I said 'who am I kidding, I don't have enough room in the freezer now, nevermind adding a cake that has to stay there for a year.

i did this at my first wedding - and what a waste.
First of all - they had real flowers on my cake - i didnt realize that they put on the piece i froze until after we got back from the honeymoon
And also it was freezerburned - and im not one to eat something thats been in a freezer for a year - be it ice cream or cake or anything else.

I guess we will do this more out of tradition than actually to eat and enjoy our cake at the 1 year mark. Even if it turns out bad we will have the experience to share and most likely laugh at

I would like to do this. But it really doesnt work with the stupid little poundcake type thing that RHs give you. It works better with dark/rum cakes

I know it's tradition, but a year-old cake just didn't sound appetizing to me and DH, so we enjoyed ours while it was still fresh!
