Just wondering if any of you ladies will be taking part in this tradition. Take the poll if you get a chance and let us know why or why not or share another idea!!

How to freeze the top tier of your wedding cake

Many couples choose to follow the tradition of saving the top tier of the wedding cake to enjoy on their first anniversary. Savoring a slice of the wedding cake on your anniversary will provide you with an unmatched opportunity to reminisce about the many memories created on your big day. Here are some tips on freezing and tasting your reserved cake top.

After the reception refrigerate the top tier overnight to firm up the icing.
Wrap the entire cake tightly with plastic, making sure to reduce all air bubbles.
Put cake in cake box (provided) and wrap the outside of the cake box with plastic.
Put entire wrapped box in freezer

Helpful hints when ready to eat preserved wedding cake

Remove plastic from the box and cake.

Thaw cake in refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
Remove cake from refrigerator and leave at room temperature for 2 more hours.
Slice and enjoy.

FH is a sugar addict. if he knew a cake was in our freezer he'd eat it before our anniversary.

instead we are going to bring a picture of our cake to a local bakery a week before and have them duplicate the top layer for us.

Our bakery actually will make us a fresh little cake for our anniversary for free! I am glad. I don't like freezer burn!

We froze it, but i don't think we did it right. We didn't have time to stick it in the fridge for 2 hours, so we just shoved into those supermarket plastic bags, tied it up and threw it in the freezer. I'm sure that thing is going to be nasty in a year.

I can't follow through with the tradition since we'll be at the hotel until the day we leave for our HM (the next day)

I would like to do this. But it really doesnt work with the stupid little poundcake type thing that RHs give you. It works better with dark/rum cakes

Yes, i know, rum cake can take a beating. My mom already ordered the Jamaican Rum cake for the wedding, along with this 'new grooms cake' that I never heard of until LIW, and then the cake that the RH provides. Thats alot of cake !

My Mom saved my sister's cake from her wedding.
its 10 years old, I AM NOT touching it, but she says if you freeze rum cake really well, it can last pretty long. I don tthin she eats it ( i hope not) but she likes to brag about how she still has it.
