I have a bunch of frequent flyer miles that I want to use for our honeymoon but have heard that some of the travel agents have great deals that include air. Has anyone booked their flights using frequent flyer miles???
Did you book the flight and then see the travel agent?

Re: Frequent Flyer Miles
We are using miles but, we did our honeymoon on our own. A friend used miles and did her flights first and then went to the travel agent.
It's best to do it this way because you can see if you will be able to redeem your miles for a flight. Flights are available 11 months in advance and usually the ones that require the least amount of miles go rather quickly!

Re: Frequent Flyer Miles
You can use a TA to book your hotels and stuff and tell them you are going to get your own tix using your flyer miles

I would just book your flights yourself and book everything else through the travel agent. I know that travel agents can book mileage tickets for you but they will charge a fee.

we booked the flight independent of the TA. let me tell you though using those miles was a big pain in the ARSE

well, to make a long story short (well at least I will try)- we booked our flight for MAY 30 back in OCTOBER. We had enough miles for 2 coach seats. In october they told us there were no more FF seats in coach for the flights in may and june. Keep in mind also that May/June is the slow season in Costa Rica. When we actually got on the plane, there were so many empty seats they told people they could sit wherever they wanted .
What we had to do was this: Use ALL our miles on a 1st class seat. Then downgrade that first class seat to coach so DH and I could actually sit together. So we used all the miles on the 1st class seat which was actually a coach seat anyway. These were AMEX points, so we tried a few different airlines and they all gave us the same story. The only one that was even somewhat accomodating (that would find a way for us to sit together) was Delta.

Re: Frequent Flyer Miles
We booked our flight using our FF miles from AA. So we didn't pay anything for our flight to Hawaii. You can book your flight and then use the travel agent for any other pieces of your honeymoon.

Re: Frequent Flyer Miles
We didn't have problems but, we booked the first day we were able to. We are flying Continental and were able to do everything online. We used Amex pts for FH's ticket but, transferred them over to Continental that day.
We booked a flight for FILs using their FF miles 6 months in advance of a trip for them. They were able to use miles but, they had to use double the amount of miles that they could've used for the same flight if they had booked earlier.
They limit the amount of seats available for the lowest amount of miles and they go quickly! Even during off peak times!

Re: Frequent Flyer Miles
I have enough for 1 first class and 1 business class ticket right now. I might just try to buy some points to upgrade my FH's ticket to first class. My points are with American and we are looking to head to Hawaii. I just want to get the flights booked so I know I save some money but wasn't sure how it worked. Keep in mind I am flying in Sept 07, after labor day.

Just deal with American Airlines directly. I am sure they will be very helpful.
