~Friday Feb 18th QOTD~

Original post by jettahot

Morning Ladies!!
I really enjoyed being BOTW this week and will announce the new BOTW tomorrow morning!!!

Hmmmm whose it gonna be......

Today's question is....

What is you new name going to be, if you dont mind sharing....
Any reservations about taking on a new last name for any of you? Anyone not taking FH's name and why?

My new name will be Randi Lyn Weinberg. It is now Randi Ganut. My last name has haunted me since birth, mostly due to mis-pronouncing on almost everyones part since I was in kindergarten and was always teased. The way its spelt, looks like it would be pronounced Ga-NUT. So kids went wild with the NUT part forever!
Plus my first name being Randin (a boys name) didnt help matters~
Im excited to be a Weinberg!!!!!

I'm definitely going to miss my last name but am taking his (though I might have to hyphenate at work).... My current last name is a common boys name so we agreed that we'll use it as our first son's middle name!

Re: ~Friday Feb 18th QOTD~

I'm keeping my name.

When I was younger I always thought that by the time I got married it would be a non-issue and women would not be taking their husband's names anymore (a cradle feminist I guess).

I feel like my name is my name. I don't see why I should change my name to his. I would be all for BOTH of us hyphenating to have the same name, but not for me to give up my identity. it doesn't sit right with me. Doug totally accepts it, but he would prefer it if I took his name. He also doesn't get it in light of tha fact that I hate my dad. In fact I have told my mom that if she goes to her maiden name I will take it too. In HS (before my parents even got divorced) I wanted to legally change to my grandmother's maiden name since I adore my grandmother and I wanted an Italian name since my last name is German and we have celebrated basically no german culture and I identify as Italian. My mom didn't like the idea, saying that her cousins who still have that name wouldn't like it ..or whatever. As I mentioned I'd take my mom's maiden name (also an Italian name) in a heartbeat as well.

I did decide though that socially, I won't really contest if people call me by FH's last name. It used to really bother me 'Mrs. K... is my mother in law', and it bothered me that people assume, but I know it makes FH happy, and I even got our channa plaque with just his name on it. I didn't tell him that, but I think it's a surprise that will make him happy.

My last name is constantly spelled wrong (its german, but can be jewish also...so most spell it the jewish way). But FH's name...SZUSTERMAN.....really?!? Not only is it constantly spelled wrong, its pronounced wrong (the Z is like a H- so its Shoo-ster-man, but we get Zu-ster-man). As of right now, I plan on taking his name socially, but I want to finish school before I legally change my name.

only downside and im not really sure its a downside if that me and FH have practically the same name we're going to be Brianne and Brian Brown which is a whole alot of alliteration!

I love couples that have close names- like Chris and Kris or Brianne and Brian, Jerry and Gerrilyn, Vincent and Vincenza. My parents are Jenny Jo and Jim Bob (their southern names at least). So cute!

i love my last name : Cruz

but at least his last name still sounds Spanish

I'll be Lucero

but it annoys me that it's longer, and last to be spelled out and repeated

i was simply and awesomely referred to as just Cruz often for 29 yrs ...im sad to see it go...

I love my last name.... It's not that I dislike FH's last name (also Italian and actually shorter) I just prefer mine.

I'm an only child and it makes me sad to know that there is only 1 other person to carry the last name - a 2nd cousin of mine who i met once when he was born.

I have a serious attachment to my name... goes back to a lot of family history and im having a hard time letting it go. I don't see myself as Mrs. XXX b/c that's FMIL's name, not mine....

I can't hyphanate b/c that would just be cruel (my last name now is 10 letters) and people have a hard enough time w/ my first and last name, lets not add another to the mix.. so yea, i have some things to need to work out

My last name is Klimowicz ( said klem- oh-witz) and I am proud to say I am Polish and LOVE my last name. It is frustrating that people do not take the time to at least try to pronounce it. I get klemowiski all the time. Really? I don't see it.
My FH's last name is Anello. Simple, but I can't see not using my last name, so I will probably either hyphenating it or making my last name. my middle name.

It is bitter sweet taking fh's last name, but I am going to. I love how my name flows now; Michele Munro. I will become Michele Schneider, and fh already has an aunt Michele, so it doesn't sound odd to say it.

Btw, Randi you were an awesome BOTW! I looked forward to your questions everyday! :)

Both our names are pretty hard to pronounce. I'm taking his on with no hesitation, however at work (a school) I'm known as 'K'. Even the principal calls me that. Some of the kids too (not even Miss K, lol, I'm just 'K'). So I'm going to miss being 'K' at work, but I think the people who have known me for the past 5 years will continue to call me that.
My last name is German, and my new name is going to be Indian.
(not posting last names bc of paranoia LOLOL sorry)

Im going from Eisenberg to Stevens. Actually I am hyphenating as I have a not quite 5 year old who is overwhelmed by all the changes. Her name is the only one ever given with love and intent and I won't change it. It's who she is. He'd like to adopt her and if that time comes and she is ready to take his name then we'll both be hyphenated. I'm also known professionally by my maiden name. I have no issue with his name and will proudly use it socially, etc

OMG, mine is German but a Jewish word, too! Only 4 letters but no one says it correctly b/c it's not spelled the same as the Jewish word.

I'm so excited to take FH's last name, b/c it means we'll officially be related (I know, I'm a dork)

The oooonnlllly complaint I have is that I can't figure out a cute way to write a capital T - I always make them look exactly like my J's!

I have a long italian last name that people like to butcher ... So I will be taking FH's last name - Bishop...

So much easier for the DMV!
