Friday night wedding dress vs. Saturday night dress
ok so i've been having this 'discussion' with a few of my friends. They all seem to think a friday night wedding you can get away with anything....such as a 'cotton' dress, sundress, pants, etc, etc. and Saturday night you can't.
I don't agree with that...I feel a a wedding is a wedding and I wouldn't exactly dress down.
So are these sun dresses or cotton dresses acceptable for Friday nights?
I was at a wedding once and saw a girl in jeans....now I would NOT want to be 'that girl' lol

I definitely disagree...everyone knows people have wedding on fri. or sun to save money not to have a casual dinner party...now I know I need security @ the door because if someone comes in in jeans... ...well nevermind

a wedding is a wedding and they should be thought of as special whether they be weeknight weddings, fridays, saturdays, or sundays. i also hate when people think that afternoon weddings arent as 'fancy'.

well i think it depends on the 'kind' of wedding it is and where it is being held...i think a cotton dress would be perfect for an outdoor vineyard wedding...we told our guests to come dressed casual...since it was a tent wedding..and we wanted more of a clambake atmosphere than a black tie affair...

Re: Friday night wedding dress vs. Saturday night dress
I def. agree with you.... a wedding is a wedding no matter the night. Therefore, a cotton wedding dress is not acceptable on a Friday or a Saturday.
However, if you are planning to do a small type of wedding, which is more casual, then it does no matter the day. What I am trying to say is that it is not the particular day which names the feel of the wedding.

I may be misinterpreting what you are saying, but I just wanted to point out that there are other reasons why people might not get married on a Saturday night.
Here are just a few reasons
1) Jews aren't supposed to get married on Shabbat (rules out fri night, sat afternoon, sat night until sundown) and sundown is very late in the summer.
2) some people want a specific date that falls on a different day of the week
3) some people cant meet the sat night minimum
It's not always because people are cheap

I am having a Friday night wedding . If anyone (female) came in pants I would die. Also, a flower dress, um no that is for the day. Any day night wedding you always have to wear a dress not bade out of cotton too! I also only perfer balck. I have never heard of this before. I feel bad for them they prob have gone to weddind where the people were making fun of them!
Also, people do not have a Friday night wedding b/c they are cheap. That is actually a special date for us and if it was a monday we would be haveing a monday wedding!

I definately disagree with your friend..no matter what day, the whole ambience of the wedding DOES NOT CHANGE...i think weddings should be elegant..and should dress accordingly

agreed..the only reason i choose friday was because i didn't think we would meet the minimum for a saturday evening(but somehow now we are way past that anyway). saving money was just an added bonus

Re: Friday night wedding dress vs. Saturday night dress
It definitely depends on the type of wedding. If you are having a wedding on a beach and the invite says to dress casual, then cotton dresses are acceptable. I do not think a specific day of the week should determine dress code.

the only differences i see btw. weddings is whether its a day or night wedding. i feel all night weddings are formal and day weddings are a little little formal.

Re: Friday night wedding dress vs. Saturday night dress
when did the night ever define the importance of a wedding...you're friends don't know what they are talking about...you're wedding is just as special as anyone elses whether it is on a sat or a tues!! If anyone had shown up to my fri night wedding wearing a sun dress...THEY would have looked like the A#%hole... Tell those who want to wear cotton to stay home and go to a picnic that night or something...

Re: Friday night wedding dress vs. Saturday night dress
I personally think it depends on the night and the Venue. You would not wear a gown to a Sunday afternoon wedding. If I am going to a wedding at a low-end catering facility, regardless of what day of the week, I would not want to be over dressed. I also don't feel comfortable wearing a gown on a saturday night unless the invite says black tie optional or I am invited to a fancy venue. I don't like to look like my outfit costs more than the couple paid for the wedding.
I am getting married on a Sunday eve and am putting black tie optional so those that wish to wear a gown will not feel over-dressed and others should know to be more formal. I am also getting married in a mansion not at a catering hall which I think makes a big difference.
If you want to get married at a VFW, that is fine but don't expect people to dress too fancy and if you're getting married at Oheka, I wouldn't expect sun dresses. JMO

I think it depends on the wedding and the style therein. The day of the week doesn't, nor should it, determine what you wear.

Re: Friday night wedding dress vs. Saturday night dress
Wow..There are some pretty strong feelings about this....I do think day weddings are usually a bit more understated. If you are out in the sunlight for a ceremony cotton, silk, linen, poplin and similar fabrics look nicer and are more comfortable. A dark or beaded satin or crepe cocktail dress looks out of place in a garden at 2pm. Not to hurt anyone's feelings, I would assume a Friday night wedding is more cocktail dress than ball gown. That's not to say you couldn't have a black tie wedding on a Friday night, just be specific on the invite. My cousin's wedding on Long Island was black tie and it was spectacular. I am really glad the whole family dressed up, it made for beautiful pictures. Some of the guys grumbled, but in the end it was so nice to see the family looking so good. I always have trouble dressing for day weddings, but I recently purchased an ivory silk spring coat and that seems to help make the outfit daytime and festive.

Thank you... Couldnt have said it better! Mine is on a sunday b/c thats the actual DATE i wanted... if it fell on a sat, i would have had it on sat instead... I chose afternoon b/c i didnt want such a formal atmosphere as usually a night wedding has... altho i do know some brides still do want black tie for an afternoon.... Just not me
