Ok, my wedding is a Friday evening in October. The ceremony is at the reception hall, so there is no travel time between.. which do you think would be best?

Re: Friday Night Wedding Time-POLL
Well my wedding is on a friday too and my cocktail hour is from 6:30-7:30 and the reception is from 7:30-11:30. i thought that was pretty good because it does not end too late but yet it does not start extremely early. People might be exhausted by 1:00 am on a friday evening

Oh yeah definitely you will need more time in the summer. that was a good idea. we are just lucky because it is winter and it is not like we will run into Beach Traffic going out to Long Island...

Re: Friday Night Wedding Time-POLL
We had our ceremony at the hall... 7-7:30, cocktail hour 7:30 - 8:30, etc. It was perfect. I think only handful of people missed our ceremony, I think it was a great time to start.

Re: Friday Night Wedding Time-POLL
On a Friday night coming from work... people are going to be starving! (i know I would be!) So starting cocktail at 8 is late for someones first bite of food in 7 hours! LOL My vote is the ceremony at 6 and cocktail at 7.

Re: Friday Night Wedding Time-POLL
Mine is Friday.... THIS FRIDAY
My ceremony is at 1pm, and many many people will not be there. The cokctail hour is at 4:30 & most pople had to take 1/2 a day to make this. In hindsight I should have made it later. I voted for 7pm ceremony

Re: Friday Night Wedding Time-POLL
I had concerns to about the hour of my friday wedding but I got oer it. My ceremony is at 5pm and the cocktail hour starts at 8:30-9:30 then 9:30-1 is the reception. If your friends and family really care they will stay. Dont stress it

Church is at 3:30-4:30, then pics at reception site. Cocktail hr starts at 7pm and reception is 8-12.
I expect only close family/friends to attend church, so that is why it is early. Anyone really wanting to come will get the day off I am for sure.

Re: Friday Night Wedding Time-POLL
I picked 6:00 ceremony so that people have time to get there from work, but don't have to wait too late to start eating! :o)

Re: Friday Night Wedding Time-POLL
My ceremony is at 3:30pm and Cocktail begins at 7:30pm. I too only expect close family and friends to go to the Church, but I sent std's so that people will know it will be on a Friday and if they want they can do 1/2 day at work.
Also I'm giving people time to get to LI with friday night summer traffic!!

Thanks for all the feedback ladies!
Peabody, that does seem a little bit early for a Friday night... unless you think yoiu might have an afterparty for the younger crowd?

Re: Friday Night Wedding Time-POLL
This thread really helped me! My ceremony is at 5:00 and my reception will start at 8:00. I'm a little upset because it will be dark when my ceremony ends and I wanted to take pictures outside, but my Mother is furious at the thought of moving the ceremony to 4:00. I was thinking of taking pictures at an arboretum instead. Any suggestions?
I am having a Friday wedding and my ceremony is at 3pm and the guests can go for chamagne and strawberries at the hall at 5:30pm and the reception is from 6-11pm. So I didnt vote BTW...

Re: Friday Night Wedding Time-POLL
I actually had a 5:00 ceremony, and my cocktail hour didn't start until 8:00..I thought it was going to be too much time between, but my guests were happy that they had time to go home and freshen up-especially on a friday between work and traffic. Also we had plenty of time for pictures.
