Friday or Sunday Night?

Original post by FromGtoC

My mother and I have different views on this. I say Friday night so I know that I can sleep the following day and she says Sunday so that you don't have to go to a wedding right after work in traffic.

100% Sunday.
I've had to go to so many friday weddings and i mo, they are super annoying! you have to leave work eaarly to run home, get ready and then run out to get to the ceremony. its almost impossible to get married in a church on a friday night as well.
i know for most people, like me,i try to conserve my days off for things important to me, but friday weddings for me are a major inconvenience because its still a day i have to leave early.
That is why i chose a Sunday for my wedding. Yes, people may not be able to drink as much as they want or they may have to go to work on Monday and leave early - but if you get married on a friday you have a different set of problems - people may notb e able to take off or get there late...
so in the end, do what works bestfor you.

I personally prefer a Friday over a Sunday... I debated possibly doing a Friday wedding but we just decided Saturday was what we truly wanted.

My feeling is if you start a friday wedding late, all is good! Starting cocktail hour about 7:30 would be IDEAL for a Friday night IMO.

Re: Friday or Sunday Night?

My wedding was a sunday night that ended at 11:30 and it was fine, a few people left early but for the most part, most people were there until the end... i would rather go to a sunday over a friday just because the idea of having to rush home from work, shower, change and get ready, then rush over to the place, sitting in friday traffic just does not appeal to me... i feel like after a day of hard work, i would want to just go home and relax... and not everyone can get off of work early, so they would end up missing part of it or just have to take the whole day off anyway...
but this is just my opinion... ultimately it's your day and you do whatever you feel is right!

Sunday night, hands down!
Personally, I'm tired on Fridays and I want to rest and unwind.
My FH agreed with me. We're having a 6:30-11:30 wedding on a Sunday. It works out for people coming from far away because they take the Monday off and they can arrive on Saturday and be part of the final arrangements and feel like they're part of the wedding and/or partake in the rehearsal dinner! The crucial people will take Monday off, others will leave a bit early, the rest will be a bit tired on Monday or just ask for the morning of that Monday off. My guests have been very accommodating and don't seem to mind the Sunday night wedding. I rather have them leave at let's say 10PM than arrive 2 hours late for a Friday night wedding or even worse, not make it at all because of traffic or because they had a long week, had to work late, etc, etc...

Friday! I like to drink at weddings and Sunday night weddings aren't my thing. The last two wedding I went to were on Fridays and they were packed for the cocktail hour (one a little too packed )

the heated debate!

honestly, i really firmly believe that people who love and care about you will make it to your wedding no matter what...anyone who is going to whine about taking a day off or whine about rushing or being tired etc, obviously doesnt care enough about you or your wedding...and this goes for friday or sunday weddings...I personally would not mind taking a day off for a good friends or family members wedding...those who dont want to take off, shouldnt and you know what they prob shouldnt come at all imo! lol sorry to be brutally honest

I have had absolutely no complaints or problems with my friday night wedding other than one person w religious obligations (shabbat)

my family and friends are excited to kick off their labor day weekend with my wedding

I would like to suggest, that it might make it nicer/easier if you do it on a holiday weekend, like the friday before labor day or memorial day

anddd would like to point out something that no one points about friday weddings...you have the entire hall to yourself! and all the freedom you want to pick any start time, bc generally there are no other weddings that day..I love this aspect of my friday wedding!

i voted for Sunday. I have been to a couple of sunday weddings that ended at 10pm and I was able to go to work the next day. Friday weddings (I have one coming up soon) means I have to either leave work early or miss the ceremony. I always feel rushed when I go to weddings on fridays. But it depends on your preference. A party is a party!

I vote Friday night...I went to a Sunday night wedding and the next day at work was rough for many of us that attended...unfortunately we could not take off (wasn't a work wedding)

been to many Friday night weddings and it was nice knowing the next day was a day of rest etc...didn't have to take off from work during the day...was able to go home and get ready in time.

I voted for Friday.

I personally would prefer to leave work a lil early to get to the ceremony (if its not at the RH) then have to leave early from a sunday night wedding or try to get outta bed for work Monday morning. JMO.

Re: Friday or Sunday Night?

I can see the pros & cons to both, but I personally prefer a Sunday wedding, which is what we're doing. In our case, many guests work in education (I'm a teacher) and have the summers off. Also, over half the guests are from out of town and the ones we've spoken to are coming in on Friday and staying through Monday morning. We're having a dinner Saturday night, wedding Sunday, and brunch Monday.

If people need to leave early, I totally understand - I just want everyone to be there for the ceremony. It would probably bother me more to see empty seats during the ceremony than a cleared dance floor for the last hour or so of the reception. But that's just me...

Re: Friday or Sunday Night?

We had a Sunday night wedding and it was just as much of a party as a Friday night or Saturday night. I think it was us (the bride & groom), the bridal party and our guests that made the day as amazing as it was, not the day of the week or time of day.

Whichever night you choose, the people who love you and want to be there will be there. And your entertainment and the happiness of your wedding day will dictate how wild or low-key your party is. Don't get hung up on technicalities - it's all about what works for you!

I voted for Friday, however if its a 3 day weekend and you have Monday off I don't mind a Sunday night wedding (ex mine LOL)

but on a normal 3 day weekend I would rather leave work alil early and attend a Friday night wedding

I've been to both Friday and Sunday weddigs and I personal enjoyed Friday..you will have all immediate family @ church so that's not a big deal..the issue is on a Sunday night guest tend to leave early cause of work the next day and its a shame so I'd personally would much rather go to a Friday night wedding IMO
