Friday vs.s Saturday Weddings

Original post by Tara24

Hey Ladies:

I have decided that i will be having my wedding at Land's End the weekend of March 26th (friday) or March 27 (saturday). Right after i called up Land's End confirming the friday date i placed it as my status on Facebook (BECAUSE I AM EXCITED).

Within 2 minutes my cousin messaged me that she was super excited, but also said she might be late!!! This message freaked me out a bit!! This friday is right before a break for teachers (i am a teacher also), i understand it is hard to get the day off, but i thought people would take the extra step to make sure they make the church.

Should i have it on a saturday??? Any negative feelings towards friday weddings?

Have you considered a Sunday afternoon? Less expensive and easier for people to make it. And you'd have that great sunset...

Wow, I am surprised your cousin's first reaction was to tell you that she was going to be late for a wedding that is over a year away. Sounds so self-absorbed to me....why did she have to burst your bubble like that?

I am sorry but I would have to say I agree! Why would your cousin even think to say that NOW?

I chose a Friday wedding because it was cheaper pp (and we have a guest list of 270 so that $$$ difference is quite high!!!) I just couldn't justify spending that much more for the same exact thing when our wedding is already ridiculously expensive! Our church is going to be during the day and I am sure a lot of people will miss it but I honestly feel like those who truly matter will be there. I know our closest friends and family will be at the church and that's all that matters to us. Besides, the majority of our OOTers live in different countries and they are planning on coming over for a few weeks, not just a weekend. If we had a bunch of OOTers just coming in for the weekend, that may have played a small part in our decision making but luckily that wasn't so much of an issue for us!

I thought the EXACT same thing when i first read the post. Forgot to bring it up but it is SOOOO weird to me that her reaction to finding out your date that is over a year a way, she says that she is going to be late who says that, and yeah it is very selfish. SHe has plenty of time to let you know this and to do this when you first book and are very excited, is a sign that she is selfish and probably likes to be the center of attention bc if its a special moment for you, why bring the attention back on her and make this about her. I could never say that to somebody and wouldnt even think about it, i would just oh congrats you must be so excited, tell me about your RH and stuff like that, not oh your wedding that is over a year away i will be late for. Seriously how does she even know now

Sometimes when you have exciting news to share there will be those who will RIGHT AWAY think of something negative to say back. Ive seen this before, and they do this all the time. Is she jealous that you are engaged? or is she just not happy with something in her own life that she takes happy news and has to bring up something negative. I think this is definitely the case. And i dont think she can know this FAR in advance that she cant take off, she will also probably not make any effort to do so since she is already saying she will be late. She can wait until the year of your wedding and see how many sick days, personal days she has left at the time but i doubt that will happen.
