Friday Wedding .....

Hi girls !! I'm new to this board... I just recently booked with JT for a Friday 2009 wedding. Recently I have been getting very nervous because I'm from Staten Island and the drive to JT is about 45 min. Im afraid my guests wont get there on time. Cocktail starts at 7pm. My FMIL is convincing me to switch the date to a Saturday. I just figured those who love us and want to be there will take the time to prepare. Can I please have your opnions?

I am debating a friday night wedding too. My dream is to have it on a saturday evening, however Im looking to have a summer wedding on the water, so Im finding that prices are sky high for a sat night in the summer. There is always the other option to have it on friday night. I feel like people wont want to take a day off of work to come or they will skip the ceremony ( which I know a lot of people do anyway) and just go to the reception, but yet if they really wanna go to your wedding then they will take off. Its a hard decision.

first off...welcome and congrats..

alot of things will be changing by 2009 (according to many BM's banquet managers) they say that fri nights will be the new sat nights and everyone will want their wedding then so keep that in mind

and my opinion..its your wedding do you what you want!

hi... welcome and congrats.... i guess it depends... but if you want it on a friday night... you can have it.. it's your wedding... and yea i think ppl will try to make it there on time... just give them a heads up on how long it takes to get there...

I have the same thing. But, my wedding is on a Thursday night. The majority of my guests are coming from Bklyn and cocktail begins at 6:30p.m. I would love to have a Saturday wedding but it's just not in the budget. I will send out save the dates and give guests a heads up on the day. And, yes you figured right the ones that love you will come and enjoy your day with you.

I dont think you should switch to Saturday if it's not in your budget. I would put a half hour earlier start time on the invitation and the people who really want to be there will do there best to be there on time

First welcome to the boards!!! And Congrats!!

Just my two cents but I went to a Friday night wedding in Staten Island 2 weekends ago and I live in Brooklyn - it took us almost 2 hours to get from my house to the South Shore Country Club - granted it was the opposite direction but it is a bit of a mess either way on Friday nights. Of course those that are important will find a way but 3/4 of the guests at this wedding missed the cocktail hour

I wouldn't change it if you are set on having it on a Friday. Like you said the guests who really want to be there will make the plans necessary to get there on time.

I absolulely believe that if people want to be there they will make the arrangements to ensure they are not late.

I still haven't booked my hall yet...but I have been to a Friday wedding. My graduation party was on a Friday too. Its definitely cheaper than Saturday night and sometimes cheaper than Sunday. Personally, the people that want to be there will be there. Also, even if you have a Saturday night wedding, some people will be no shows, its just how it is. As long as you send out invites, save-the-dates etc, the majority of the people will be there. The only thing you have to be prepared for is that if youre getting married at a church some guests will miss your ceremony.

Like all the girls have said already, the ones who want to be there will do whatever it takes to be there on time. Maybe instead of switching it to Saturday see if they can move the time back a little? When I went to JT they offered me an 830 wedding on a friday night, but that was for an August wedding so maybe the time offerings are different with the seasons?

i went through the same thing, it was the big debate.
FH and i went with a sunday, friday & sunday and usually the same price (a lot less than sat), i figured everyone would be stuck in rush hour, possible skip the church, go home and change w/o shower ( which could make someone feel gross), and so on.....
i was totally agaisnt a sunday wedding, but than i went to my cousins, and i couldnt even take off from work on mon(b/c i start a new job). it was totally fine, no one had to rush, you can have you RH on fri nite, relax on sat and get married on sun!!!
but its totally up to you, write out the pros and cons!!!!!!!

do whatever your heart desires! its the same old story i know but the people that are important to u will be there on time regardless of what day it is! dont let your mom or any one else sway your decision

I think a Friday wedding is great. That was my first choice. We decided to book a Sunday night wedding, our second choice, because it fits well with our destination themed wedding. We are spending the weekend on the Jersey Shore first than getting married before leaving. Best of luck!!! Your guests will definitely get there on time. On top of it, Friday night weddings start later than most nights for that reason.
