My ceremony is at 3pm which i know most of my guests wont be at and that doesnt bother me but is 6pm too early to start on a friday night at the RH? They gave me the option for 8 o clock cocktail hour but then with the extra viennese hour it would have ended at 2am!
From what im reading 8 is normal for fridays and im booked already!
Please tell me not to worry!

I don't think it's too early...it's your wedding and if people have to leave work early....so be it!

DO NOT WORRY!! When we planned our wedding for home it was an 1800 cocktail hour. Don't worry....It will give people a chance to relax, unwind, and then eat and not be home so late......To be honest I prefer a 6pn cocktail hour vs a later one.

I don't think it is too early at all. My wedding initially was a 6:00 cocktail hour but my church was moved to 4:30 so now we are having a 7:00 cocktail hour.

Why not a 7pm cocktail? I am having my ceremony at 5pm and begining my cocktail at 8:00. No vienesee hour for me, but my reception ends at 1am. Cocktail hour begins at 7:00.
I dont think 6pm would be too early, just take into account the distance between ceremony cite and reception hall.

I think the CH of the Friday night wedding I went to last year started at 6pm. I remember not being able to make the ceremony, and I felt really guilty, but I made it in plenty of time for the CH.

Yea the ceremony isnt going to be long...maybe like an hour/hour and a half then they just go north and they'll all be there in plenty of time. It takes like 25 minutes to get there and it wont really be affected by hamptons traffic since its just a straight run north.
A lot of my guests will be coming from the city though. Whatever though....I shouldnt be so concerned with everyone else dammit but i cant help it!

We are getting married on a Friday and the ceremony is at 3:30 and our CH starts at 7 I even debated 7:30 but didn't want the wedding to end too late.

I think that's pretty typical. We are doing ceremony on site so I think we are getting married at 5:30 or 6:30 and then cocktail hour with start either 6pm or 7pm respectively. I am not worried It will be fine.

It's fine. Everyone will know months in advance, and will leave work early to make that delicious CH!!

Re: Friday wedding- 6pm too early for cocktail?
I dont think its too early in general, but 6pm might be early for some guests due to traveling back from work, changing and driving to the hall. I woudl go wtih the 8pm cocktail if you care that some people may not show up at the 6pm one.
My wedding is also on a friday but its Friday, July 3 so our cocktail is at 7pm but since its a holiday weekend the catering director told us that poeple usually get out early or take that friday off, so alot of poeple would show up at that time

Re: Friday wedding- 6pm too early for cocktail?
I am getting married the Friday evening before Memorial Day weekend and my cocktail hour starts at 8 pm. I wanted my wedding to go late but now I am debating whether that's too late.
I think 7 pm is probably better for the average Friday night.

Re: Friday wedding- 6pm too early for cocktail?
Personally I think it's a little early. I'm getting married on a Friday, and I originally had my CH scheduled to start 7pm, but I pushed it back to 7:30 to give everyone a little extra time to leave work, get ready, and fight Friday traffic. I didn't want half of my guests to miss most of the CH!

I don't think 6pm is too early for the CH. I went to a Friday night wedding with a 6pm CH - I took off from work and FH left work early - Since we knew about the timing of the wedding beforehand, we just made our schedules fit! Besides, IMO, the later the CH gets on a day where people might have worked, the earlier people are looking to leave cuz they are tired.
