Friday Weddings

It seems the only way I can afford my venue is to do a Friday wedding. Just curious to get some opinions on this because I keep going back and forth. Do you think guests dread Friday weddings or has it become acceptable with the costs involved and some added bonuses (guest don't have a hungover flight the next day)

I don't think anybody DREADS Friday weddings! The last time I had to go to a Friday wedding, I was just a little stressed because I was working in Mineola and had to get out to Lake Ronkokoma. I just felt bad because I wasn't able to attend the ceremony.

But everybody loves weddings! So I don't think anybody would be dreading yours if it was on a Friday :)

We are having a Friday wedding and although it wasn't our first choice, we are ok with it now. We have been to a few Friday weddings and they are great. You may miss a few people at the actual ceremony itself because of work etc but the reception will be just like any other! It also gives people a reason to have a 3 day weekend if they wanted as well.

Thanks girls I am starting to come around on the idea. Either have it at the place I am in love with or have it on a Saturday...leaning towards the first option!

See, I specifically WANTED a Friday night wedding & not for financial reasons. I had gone to a friend's wedding that took place on a Friday night & thought it was the best thing ever haha. It kicked off the weekend & then we had two whole days to recover!

@ mart81 what venue are you thinking of? they are always willing to negotiate- try asking for no tax...
is your date flexible? that can help you get a saturday wedding
I have been to friday weddings, more people do come to the reception than ceremony but everyone attending your wedding loves you and will make it happen to be there!!! I had to have a saturday wedding or else my fiances side of the family wouldnt have come (long story) but I wanted a saturday wedding anyway!!!! but make the best choice for you!!! :)

It's DEFINITELY worth all the savings! My wedding will be on a Thursday (but the next day is July 4th so everybody will be off anyway). Because of this, we're able to have the wedding we want at the venue we're head over heels for without having to make sacrifices in any of the areas that are important to us (photo/video and band).

This! We accepted that maybe some people may miss the reception and some out of towners may not make it in, but the people who are really important will be there and we could have our wedding at a place we love!

Feeling very relieved now, I think this is the right decision. JBN81012 I am in love with the Royalton and I have heard they don't really negotiate much.

If I think about it, I wouldn't mind taking the day off work even if I had to travel so hopefully my guests feel the same. They certainly will have enough notice. Thanks again!

My cousin got married on a Friday...you need to take off of work but it isn't an issue....

If its affordable at the venue you want, at the time of year you want....

OMG, you are in the same mindset I was. I was dead set on Saturday and really didn't want a Friday wedding because I didn't want to impose on anyone. I came around. People convinced me the people who matter will not mind. We are doing a late ceremony to give people the time to get there. Also, people told me it's a great way to kick off the weekend and they still have the weekend left. People spend Sunday recovering from a Saturday wedding. Little tidbits to make you feel better. :)

I've been to lots of Friday weddings. It's now very much accepted. If you are having the ceremony at the venue in the early evening, you will have most people make both ceremony and reception. If not, then you will have a smaller ceremony turnout, but its no big deal. You probably won't even notice!

Most of the weddings that I've been to are on a Friday and mine was too. Our's started at 8 and at first I was worried because it might be too late but it actually helped because alsmot everyone came on time and was able to beat the rush hour traffic.

i think friday weddings are great. I prefer them over Sunday weddings. I also prefer them over Saturday weddings with 3hours in between the ceremony & reception (blowing guest's whole day!). Just send STDs early, and people can take a day or a half a day off if they need to!

I originally was set on Saturday, but we couldnt meet the minimum for Sand Castle on a Saturday night plus it was about $20-$30 pp for the same exact package which to me is just a sunk cost. The people who matter will be at your ceremony whether its on saturday or wednesday at 4am lol, if people miss it they miss it. And to be honest, the Saturday church weddings with a 2 hour break between have less of a show up at the church then all the friday night RH weddings ive been to lol. That being said, you just have to do what is most important and what works for you.

I prefer a friday night wedding over a sunday wedding. We will most likely have a friday night wedding.

I don't see anything wrong with it - weddings are expensive and you have to do what you can afford! I almost chose a Friday night even though I wanted a Saturday, but we found that changing our time of year made it easier and more affordable to get married on a Saturday.

Definitely nothing wrong with a Friday wedding, if anything, it gives you more time to recover before you have to go back to work on Monday!
