Re: fried turkey spin off has anyone ever tried it
never tried it, but i saw it cooked on tv once. i believe it was paula deen who did it. it was quite a spectacle, b/c the fryer had to be HUGE to accomodate the turkey, and if you aren't careful, the oil will spill out and splatter. maybe try to fry just the turkey breast and see how that comes out?

I haven't made it, but I've had it. It's yummo. I may try it, but you have to do it outside.

I have never prepared one, but I have had it, it is popular down south. Both times they used this big deep fryer that was outside.

DH made one a couple of years ago. It was delicious! It was so juicy and tender. It doesn't taste oily at all.

We had one two years ago - never again. It was delicious but it took FOREVER. The turkey was HUGE and I guess it wasn't planned right because it was not warm when we ate it either.
But it was very tasty.

Really? OUr problem was that it cooked too fast. It was overdone. I think we cooked it for an hour or something, and it really could've used about 40-50 minutes. I'll have to double check.
Word of advice, though, do it outside and make sure it's dry. It was raining the day we did it and someone had to stand out there with an umbrella over the fryer the whole time!

fried turkey = good stuff...
i would go for it...every year, thanksgiving is the same...why not spice it up?
just make sure its done probally and you have the proper set up (i remember seeing all the commericals with ppl burning down trees, garages cause there setup got out of control)

Someone I know bar-be-ques it. Supposedly cuts cooking time in half. (Or more...??)

we used the bbq once (only cause our oven was broke) and i still think it took all day (8-10 hours) i think... it was a while ago.
this was probally the best turkey ive ever had. my sister put fruits inside to give it flavor and it was the best.

We did this one year and it turned out delicious! I was told that peanut oil is a good choice to use, it really gives it a nice flavor. Like everyone else said, make sure you do it outside unless you want to burn your house down! It cooks really fast, its like 40 minutes to an hour depending on the size of the turkey.
