Friend Officant

Does anyone have any information on how a friend/family member can officiate a wedding? Any links or info would help! :)

Re: Friend Officant

NY State is VERY strict about who can become a licensed officiant.

Read this faq for some more information about it:

http://www.cityclerk.nyc.gov/html/marriage/officiant_reg.shtml

If you have your heart set on a friend doing the ceremony, I think legally your best bet is to get married at city hall before your wedding ceremony day and then have your friend perform a mock ceremony to be a personal, though legally meaningless experience. The last thing you want is your marriage to not count because you've been married by someone unlicensed.

Hope that info helps.

They have to obtain a ordinate of certification to be a officiant. It is obtainable by most states if they are a member/affiliation with a church as well as a signature from the church. *Note: It does take time for them to receive the certificate. Most churches are strict about signing it unless they are a member of the church. You can get more info and get in contact with the officiant, Rob Rosenberger for my wedding. Contact info can be found on my wedding review.

Thank you very much, ladies! FH and I grew up with two different religous backgrounds, so finding an officiant that will please our families (and us!) has been really tricky.
