Friends of Animals - Organization

Friends of Animals - Organization

I'm going to have my cat spayed and someone told me about Friends of Animals. Has anyone used one of their certificates to spay/neuter their pet? There's a significant difference in their price vs. regular vet price. About $120!

Thanks in advance for info!

I was going to when I had my cat spayed and then it ended up that I could go back to the shelter where I got her and get a cert from them for certain vets. Did you get her from a shelter? Do they offer any sort of certificate?

No, I got her from a breeder. I guess I'm a little leary because the Vet that I've been going to is not on the Friends of Animals list. So I'd have to bring her someplace new.

Also I read on the site you should spay your cat when she's 2 - 6 months old. The Vet said not until she's 6 months. She's 6 months now, I hope that's not too old.

We were told to wait until our kitty was six months old and that's what we did - she was actually probably closer to seven when we did it! I actually like the animal hospital that the cert accepted better than our vet because they kept her overnight just to make sure everything was fine.

I got that certificate from FoA when I got my female dog spayed. I think it's only around $55 for a cat. Female dogs are the most expensive.

The thing is, I think the certificate only covers the actual surgery. I can't remember. It was such bullsh*t. Not FoA, but the vet. The bill still came out to around the $200s because of painkillers, the e-collar, anesthesia, etc. It helped, I just think the vet I'm at can really rip us off, and I'm probably going to switch vets. But again, female dogs are the most expensive when it come to spaying.

I just called one of the Vets on the FoA list - the receptionist was really nice, so hopefully the Vet is nice too. I told her I had the certificate and asked if there would be any other fees and she said no. I hope they're being honest. FoA is $55, my regular vet said around $170

That's good. I wish I remember if FoA said the certificate should cover surgery and everything else involved. I was just pissed because the point of the certificate is supposed to make it affordable, and my vet just really wasn't helping out.

I just went back to the FoA site and it says it should cover everything. Surgery, anesthesia and removal of stitches. You should report the vet to FoA - maybe they'll take them off the list! That's wrong!

Well I know they charged something extra because our dog was over 50 lbs. when she got it done. (For her original surgery appointment, she couldn't get it done because she ended up being sick from swallowing pebbles.) So after that, she got bigger.

Then they charged for pain meds, for the e-collar and other crap. Maybe I will ask FoA about that.

I used them when I got my cat fixed. I had no problems whatsoever and it didnt cost me anymore than the certificate I bought online.

I used an FoA certificate to get my cat fixed too. I took her to the Wantagh Animal Hospital- they're pretty good there and very nice.
