The idea of other people inviting themselves to your wedding go me thinking of something else....does anyone else's FH (or family for that matter) invite random people that you never would've expected?
We were at a wake a couple of weeks ago for one of FH's friends father. FH has been friends with this person since he was little, but the friend is a jacka$$. Only comes around when he needs FH. Anyhow, we're at the wake, and the friend's mother asks when the wedding is. FH is like 'oh don't worry, you'll get the invitation....'
I was like, 'ummmm we're inviting (so and so's) mother? You haven't seen her in like 10 years and you're barely even friends with (so and so) anymore! We can't just go inviting everyone!!!!'
ETA: We already have 250 on the guest list and I'd like to keep the actual number down at 200. If he keeps this up, we'll be inviting like 300!!!!
I swear, sometimes he just doesn't think before he opens his mouth

Hahaah I just posted a very similar story to that original post about being asked about invites at a wake. I understand your FH, it's a hard place to tell people no to things!

Re: From chrisandletizia's post......
We've been very controlling with the guest list....my parents said we cannot invite no more than 185 in hopes that only 160 come. FH's father and stepmother have been very understanding and told us to invite who we want there, but still I had them review it to make sure I didn't forget anyone. FH's mother is another story, whatever. But since my parents are paying for the reception, they have the final say over teh guest list but really no problems so far, other than fh's mother.

So now, not only am i inviting my family.. lol i am also inviting my friends immediately family cuz i was with them all the time and for major holidays( xmas eve, thanksgiving etc)
(one friend who will be in my bridal party comes along with an additional 8 or 9 people lol)

I just read your post. The thing is, the friend's mother wasn't asking if she was invited....she was just asking the date!!!! FH took it upon himself to say she'd be invited

I'm only inviting 2 of my friend's families. These two girls are my closest friends (one I've known since 6 years old, the other since 7th grade). They're also both BM's. I'm inviting the one's parents (the one from 7th grade) b/c I love them and she invited my parents to her wedding. The one who I've known since 6, I'm inviting her mom (her parents are divorced) because I still talk to her and she's very good friends with my mom.
I mean I'd have no problem with him inviting the friend's mother if he were still really close with them, but he's not. It's not like this friend is going to even be a GM. He'll be invited, but I didn't think we were inviting his mother. Then FH mentioned inviting the friend's 2 sisters as well....I was like, ummmm no. Mom ok, sisters, no.
