So, my FH and mother went to a hall last night to check it out.
Things were fine and the hall was ok. I have been set on a Sept 10 date since the day i got married and knew that was the specific weekend i wanted to get married beforie was even engaged! (but i'm def not the one who dreamed about her wedding as a little girl) So he told us the price and then mentioned jan dates would be cheaper... $14,000 cheaper!! I never ever ever thought about getting married int he middle of winter but.. really 14g! Aside from the weather, having it in Jan would mean that about 5 people who i really really would like to come wouldn't be able to. They are my co-workers in this (party and event vendors) industry and are booked already.
So whats more important.. saving $ or having important people there??? These people would also make my party amazing and bring it to another level.
ugh.... i think i'm still set on my sept date but part of me feels like an *** by basically throwing 14k away.

Re: frustrated!!!!!!
I'm sure everyone you are inviting is important... and i feel like whatever date you do chooose, unfortunately there are going to be some of these people that won't be able to make it.... If you really want to save that $$ i would go with the Jan date...winter weddings are beautiful!!

Re: frustrated!!!!!!
why wont those 5 be able to attend? the reason i ask is because if its a resolvable issue like transportation -- maybe you can pay for their flights. 5 airline tickets are still ALOT cheaper than $14k....

Re: frustrated!!!!!!
Maybe you can find a cheaper RH and have it in September. I know that getting married in November is cheaper than getting married in Sept. so maybe you could go that route.

Re: frustrated!!!!!!
$14K = a new car.......it's a lot of $. (Especially if u guys don't have a house already.) Maybe they have other dates available that r less $? Maybe a friday night or sun nite?

Re: frustrated!!!!!!
What about another off-season month, like February or March? Surprisingly, we got VERY good price quotes for March and the weather isnt too bad that time of year! Or if you want to wait..maybe December of that year?

Re: frustrated!!!!!!
They can't come cuz like i said they are part of the party industry and just like u book ur specific MC/DJ/photographer/videographer a year in advance, its the same thing.
We are staying away from Sat.. thats waaaay to expensive. We are still looking around at halls and there might be a good option and if so then all is solved.
We shall seee..........

Re: frustrated!!!!!!
The only day in Jan i would consider is the weekend after NYE cuz catering halls and the whole industry is dead quiet that day. Plus all the christmas decor and lights are still up.
But..figures in 2010 NYE falls on a Friday night!!!

I had an option of saving money, didn't chose it and feel it was not a wise decision.

Keep looking. You only have 1 price. $14k seems like a huge difference from Sept to Jan. I never heard of it being that big!

Re: frustrated!!!!!!
What about March. We could have planned the exact same wedding for nearly half price in March...but FH wanted the gardens at WM to be in bloom.

Re: frustrated!!!!!!
You can also try a Fri night or Sun afternoon in Sept, you are likely to save money. If you have your heart set on Saturday, and money is an issue, I agree that January is tempting. Some of the places we looked at varied by over $100 per person based on the day of the week and the month. March or November are good options that are more reasonable. There are a lot of options out there, so keep looking until you find the place you want, then try to get them to work with you. Also, don't forget that most of these places will bargain with you, so give it a shot. Good luck!

Re: frustrated!!!!!!
Personally, if it's important for those 5 people to be there then I would stick with your original date even if it means spending more money. When I look back at my wedding day I want to know that the people most important to me shared my day.... $ is money, you only get to have one wedding it should be everything you want it to be.

Re: frustrated!!!!!!
would it be easy for you guys to save the extra money to have it in sept? If so then do it! If it is a big stress then don't..... On the other had will you regret it if those people are not part of your special day? Just another thing to think about...

Re: frustrated!!!!!!
save the $$$... $14k is ALOT of money. If it was only a few thousand, I would say why not... but $14k is almost a down payment on a house.....
