First they said...no runner because people slip and sue.
Then they said...nothing thrown outside (flower pedals/rice, etc) because people slip and sue.
NOW...My flowergirls can't put roses on the floor as they walk down the isle....THEY HAVE BEEN 'PRACTICING' FOR MONTHS...again, because people slip and sue!!!
Is anyone else having problems like this with their church? I feel like they are taking away all the traditional stuff. Who are all these fall-downs...maybe they should give them breathalizers...

Never heard of that but who knows.People do sue for everything these days. Perhaps you can ask them what other options there are.

Re: Frustrated With Church
I got bells for everyone to ring when we come out. I thought of bubbles but a lot of brides say that they are hard to open and people spill them on themselves. I wasn't crazy about bubbles anyway...although they say it doesn't stain, I wouldn't want any to land on my dress.

Re: Frustrated With Church
Sorry, I haven't really checked any of this out with my church yet. Maybe you can have bubbles outide of church, unless they think people with slip after the bubbles pop. Tell them they are being a little ridiculous and you want to have some traditional things at your wedding. They have insurance.

They should have a special collection at mass for the fall-downs...

Aww Kelly that s u c k s
I was afraid that my church would say that too, surprisingly they said rose petals are fine and the FG's can drop the petals.
They wont make any exceptions?

Re: Frustrated With Church
My church is the same way!! No rose petals, either inside or outside the church. No runner if it has to be taped to the floor.
I can do either bubbles or the dissolving rice outside the church and that's it.
I was REALLY looking forward to rose petals.

Re: Frustrated With Church
See the post 'Thrilled and other CTK Brides' - my church has all the same rules...their main reasonsing was that there was no one to clean up the mess.....plus they just laid beautiful new tile so they don't want adhesive (tape for the runner) on them....

Re: Frustrated With Church
YESSSSSSS!!! OM gosh I have had it up to here with my church as well!!! They don't let you do anything but blow bubbles, and that can ruin certain dress fabrics!!! We can't even release doves now until we get to the caterers! Ugh. They even had the nerve to tell us that if we insisted on using our own runner (theirs is a papery kind of thing) then we have to sign a release saying that we are taking full responsibility & liability if someone hurts themselves! Are they kidding?!?! Edited to Add: Plus, my church is marble outside & I think it is more dangerous for the older people to have to tap dance around where the bubbles popped.

Re: Frustrated With Church
Sounds just like my Church. As soon as we met with the priest, he handed me this 2 page document of all the dos and don't for the wedding ceremony. Trust me, there were a lot more of the DON'Ts. No birdseed, no rose petals, no music can be played unless we use the church organist, etc. AND on top of all this, they are charging us $450.00. My mom likes the idea of releasing balloons but I heard somewhere that you have to check with your local airport first - talk about a pain in the butt!!!

Re: Frustrated With Church
For anyone who can't use things that the church will have to clean up, what about bird seed? The birds will eat it and they don't have to clean.

I was not told anything about the runner, but I was told that the FGs cannot throw petals down the aisle, do to the slipping problem

Re: Frustrated With Church
We are not allowed to throw anything inside or outside either. NO runner AT ALL either. They said their insurance has forced them to tell everyone this. BUT get this ---- we have to pay the vicar (they say he is the 'cleanup' person) 100$

Re: Frustrated With Church
I got married at St. Agnes last year. Basically, we were told that this is your day and you can do whatever you want, but..... they gave us the same list of non's as you, however ----
We were allowed a Church runner. As a matter of fact, they told us to make sure it was at least 100 feet because St. Agnes has the largest aisle to walk down in the tri-state area
We didn't throw anything outside. We had little silver bells they rang. It was just perfect....
We did not have flower girls or a ring bearer, so that eliminated the problem we may have encountered of throwing rose petals while walking down the ailse.
No matter what - your Mass will be beautiful and you should let it bother you. FM me is you have any questions.

Re: Frustrated With Church
This is what i have heard too that the petals get mashed into the carpeting etc. or glue gets on the floor... rice kills the birds...I've never heard the suing thing though.
