Frustrated with FH

UGH I am so mad... When we were booking our Honeymoon FH kept telling me that since his Uncle works for American Airlines he WAS GOING TO (not he could) get us a discount on plane tickets etc... so when we booked the room we got the more expensive one since we would be saving money.

Fast forward to today I asked him to call his uncle to tell him which flight we wanted so he could get us the tix....and his uncle told him he could NOT get him a discount.. he could only get us one if we fly stand-by (which i am not taking the chance of doing that for my HM).

So I ask FH why he kept saying that his uncle was getting us a discount? Did his uncle lie to us? Did they change the policy etc? and FH says... (NO JOKE) 'Oh i never asked him I just assumed since he worked for them he could'

I just hung up the phone on him... MEN!!! Now we are way over budget for the honeymoon and I think we have to downgrade the room after i got all excited about it.

that's so annoying. I would be just as pissed as you are. Definitely call the hotel and tell them you want to downgrade to a less expensive room, I don't see why they wouldn't let you. Did you pay it in full or just a deposit? If you only left a deposit they might not mind but if you paid in full and they have to refund you it might be a problem.

Did you purchase travel protection that you can cancel the hotel anytime?

They will def. let me downgrade.... I hope!! I only paid a deposit with my travel agent and I am sure I can.. just sux.

Men! Have you tried doing a flight search on kayak.com? If you put NYC in it will give you all of the NY airports and it will search for every flight (all airlines) departing on the day you want to leave. It lists all prices starting at the cheapest...maybe you can find something that fits in your budget with this site.

Thanks, I will try that. I am looking now and it looks like the flights are about $1500..god it got expensive to fly!. I am trying to find a direct flight (which happens to be American Airlines) and also happens to be the cheapest one so far.

Ohh that s*cks... and it's TOTALLY something FH would do too!

They always stretch everything...how long the game is, how long they will be out, what they can or cannot do..always far fatched! errrrr typical men!

Where is the honeymoon and when? If it is not busy season you could probably fly stand by and save ALOT of money but I understand why you wouldn't want to take the chance. My aunt works for American Airlines and you can never get discounts on tickets. The only thing you can do is fly on the standby passes.

It is in September... I am really nervous to take the chance and fly standby. What really bothers me is that somehow his uncle was able to get his brother cheaper tickets just recently and they did not fly standby. Whatever, just made me mad that he said for MONTHS his uncle WAS getting us a discount without ever actually asking him..OY!

Don't worry- mine is just as frustrating. I think they all are.

When we started planning, and I was looking for gowns, my FH says 'You're wearing a gown? I thought we'd just wear regular clothes!' I immediately had him medicated. They just don't know how to use their heads sometimes.

Since your HM is quite a few months away, is it possible you can wait to purchase the tickets?? The only reason I ask, is that with the price of fuel plummeting, shouldn't the air fares follow suit shortly? Of course, this is not a forgone conclusion, as since the fuel prices have gone down, they haven't gotten rid of the extra fees they instituted to cover for the increased fuel prices (charging for baggage check), nor have they reinstated the things they took away, like pillows and drinks.

I'm thinking that they HAVE to go down at some point.
