I am so frustrated right now... FH and I have been trying to block off rooms at two hotels near our RH for months now. No one would get back to us when we first started, and then they told us to come back in 2008 when they'd have the new rates.
Well we went January 1st in person to one of the hotels and were told that they are basically full for our wedding weekend, and that the other hotel would be a better option. They gave us contact info for the person to speak with and said to call and leave her a message that night b/c the rooms will probably go fast and we need to block them ASAP.
We have left at least 2 messages a day with the contact, and have called the hotels looking for her as well. It is now over a week later... and no response.
I want to send my invites out, but can't without that information(not that they are ready to send out today anyway but stil.)
Why doesn't anyone return my phone calls??
Ok vent over. thanks for listening. ------------ ETA: okay ladies, you're right... i'm PO'd.
I wanted to block around 20 rooms, and at over $120 a night that is the potential for a lot of money for this place.
I'm getting married at the Fox Hollow so please, tell me where you think I should block. FH and I do not want to be responsible for the room fees at all, we will not garuntee any amount of rooms to be used. and we'd prefer a place with a shuttle.
BW and EI are the two hotels I'm having trouble with, so please suggest someplace else.

That is very unprofessional!! Get a manager on the phone and tell them the problem. Maybe they can hurry up the process.

Is it a chain? Maybe call the 800 # for the company headquarters?
Or maybe the person is on vacation?

Ditto on that. Be sure to let the manager know the communication problem.. maybe he'll give you a discount or upgrade as a courtesy.

I had alot of trouble with hotels when i was blocking rooms. Same thing - nobody returned the calls. I chose the hotel i did b/c they were the only one with great customer service.
I think you should call their main headquarters to complain - maybe that'll help.

That manager probably has a manager (unless they're the GM and if they are....I would hope they are not treating you like that). I say call them back and give them hell.

yup we asked, and every time we ask when they will be in, the person we speak to says 'they will be in first thing in the morning, leave a message and they'll call you back'
well, we called FIRST thing this morning, and three times since then...
it's so stupid. i would go with another company but this is just so much more convenient for my guests that i'd rather be the one frustrated so that they are happy.

I agree. We are in the process of booking our hotel block and I have never been more frustrated. We have a large block (60-75 rooms) and we were promised the moon by one hotel until it came time to put things in writing. And then last night we met with another hotel who tried to pull a fast on on us. I sign hotel contracts almost everyday for my job so they thought they were going to away with something that was completely unheard of -- boy she felt stupid when I told her that what she was doing was probably considered illegal.
Kerri if you need any help let me know. There is a lot of things hotels don't explain to you upfront or word it funny so it looks like you are getting a great deal when you aren't.
In addition, if someone isn't calling you back that means there is a problem with they way they do business and you might want to consider another property.

Re: Frustrated(vent)
yea its ridiculous- I had to contact the corporate headquarters in order to get mine booked & even then the hotel wasnt all that helpful- but I finally got it done. I would go to the main website and look up the number for corporate (if its a marriott, best western, days inn) or one of those and try that way.
good luck
eta- someone also mentioned a while back about having the LI visitor bureau send out a request for you. you send your info and they email all their contacts & they then send you all these proposals for free.

Definitely keep calling and try to get someone higher up in the sales department. You are doing them a favor by using their rooms, you should demand what you want.

Fox hollow is not too far from the milleridge, we blocked rooms at the four points by sheraton in plainview. It is a gorgeous hotel, let me know if you want any info
