I have a question for all you ladies...I want to get some opinions on this. My DH and I got engaged 10/21/06, FH's brother got engaged 3 months after us (without telling anyone first by the way) We set our date for 5/10/08 next week they set there's for 7/25/08. Ok fine whatever no biggie...it gets better. My lovely future sister in law tells her mom she wants her shower in April she doesn't want it to close to HER wedding. So mine is 3/30/08 (yes I now the date) Her's is 4/19/08 3 WEEKS before my wedding. Does anyone else think this is selfish of her. By the time my wedding comes...there family, which is a huge Italian family is going to be so sick of parties.

There isn't anything you can do. Yes, it's annoying, but just let it go. FH's cousin got engaged right after us. We picked our date, they picked their date (3 weeks after our wedding). You can't tell people when to have their parties, if she wants April, she can do April.

Why would people be sick of parties? Especially when celebrating this stuff? Don't worry about it.
If it's a choice between your wedding and her shower, they'll say no to her shower.

I can understand you being upset...its 'your' time and you dont want anyone else to encroach on that. I'd probably be upset too. Unfortunately, people have their own lives and will do what they want or feel is right for them. One year, 4 of my first cousins got married within 6 months of each other. Honestly, it was a great year of celebrating...no one ever got 'sick' of the parties, we were just so excited to be able to celebrate.

It totally *****, but just like you got to pick the date you wanted for your shower so should she...everyone should get the opportunity to do what they want. Hang in there...you gotta pick your battles.

I wouldn't stress too much... like the other girls said... who gets sick of parties?? Esp weddings!! The people you are closest to and who truly love and care about you will be there no matter what, and they will LOVE it!
My good friend and her sister got married within 3 months of each other (the younger one got engaged first and then the older one panicked and planned her wedding first!) and it really caused a rift between them. Don't let it happen to you!! Just try to enjoy ALL of the celebrations! You'll have your day, and she'll have hers.
