Full Mass

Okay girls I need some help. Can someone please tell me all of the steps that go on when having a full mass? I would like to put a program together but to be honest I am unsure of everything that goes on, and when - can someone please tell me? I would call my priest, but to be honest, he's a little intimidating . Any help you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated.

I am really surprised that your priest hasn't gone over this already with you! We're at over 6 months out from our wedding and we're meeting tonight to choose our first reading (Old Testament) and will meet two more times after that (once to choose the New Testament reading and once to go over the whole ceremony). I'll give you the ceremony rundown from my Pre Cana book but if I were you I would try to meet with him about it also - just so that you really feel comfortable with the layout and to choose the options that you want to include or exclude. Hope this helps!

Catholic Nuptial Mass Ceremony

Entrance Rite
(Procession, Opening Prayer)

Liturgy of the Word
(Old Testament reading, Responsorial Psalm, New Testament Reading, Gospel Acclamation and Verse, Gospel)

Rite of Marriage
(Exchange of Vows, Blessing of Rings, Prayer of the Couple -optional, Prayer of the Faithful)

Liturgy of the Eucharist
(Presentation of the Gifts, Prayer over the Gifts, Preface, The Our Father, Nuptial Blessing, Sign of Peace, Communion, Prayer After Communion)

Concluding Rite
(Final Blessing, Recessional)

The optional Candle Ceremony usually occurs at the end of the Rite of Marriage or before and during the Final Blessing.

i really think you need to talk to your priest about this bc you have to choose from a selection of readings that they provide - you don't really just pick whatever you want.

good luck!

well it is always Old Testament, New Testament and then the Gospel - like a regular mass.

Re: Full Mass

oh boy! Welcome to my world of program hell!!!

You sound like me when I started... I'm presuming you're catholic?
If so, here's the key. When you took pre-cana, they gave you a pile of stuff.... one of those things was the 'together for life' book. (There are 2 versions, one which is orange and cream for ceremony only, and another, which I believe is green or yellow and cream, and is for the full mass) The title sounds like it's filled with tons of drivel and unsolicited relationship advice, but alas, it is not! It is the great key to the mass.

Within it, there is a form. It tells you 'select opening prayer (pages x -xx) and you select prayer a1 or a2 or a3....... and so on. All the readings and decisions are in the book. there is also a form in the back which you must fill out and gice to the priest for your rehearsal, so he knows your choices.

After that, you have to go to the church for one of their music sessions, where you pick out the processional, songs sung during the mass, and recessional. Once that's done, you have all the info for your program!

If you're intimidated by your priest, go to the music director or your pre-cana advisor for guidance... The rectory or music director may even have programs from prior weddings that you can copy or take...

hope this helps!
