I agree, she's overstepping her boundaries. I agree you should tell her you'll take her advice into consideration, you being polite makes her seem even more ridiculous. My concern with yessing her and then doing what you want is if she confronts you at the wedding, you don't want to be stressed about it the day of.

Re: FUMING MAD
seriously? just because its a Sat evening does NOT mean it has to be formal! We are having a Sat night wedding also and the boys are wearing tan suits. My mom had some qualms about it at first, but I told her its our day and we didn't want it super formal and that I didn't care what people told me I 'should' do. Then she was ok with it, lol. Don't let her push you around!

Re: FUMING MAD
Before you all start piling on the woman, I think she does make a good point. What is your dress code for the evening? If you are doing something like 'business casual', then the guys will look totally fine. If you are doing Semi-formal, cocktail attire, black tie optional, or something similar, just make sure that you are comfortable with the fact that many of the guests actually *will* be dressed more formally than the groom and the groomsmen.
If you don't really care about that, then no worries. But, just as people are telling you you don't want to look back and see that your guys worse something you didn't want them to wear, you ALSO don't want to look back and feel like the groom and his groomsmen were underdressed at their own wedding.
Just a thought.

Re: FUMING MAD
WOW! I would be fuming right now if I was you. What did your FH say about his mother's behavior or more like her words? She has every right to her own opinion and if you asked her what she thought of the colors/suits she could have voiced her opinion but obviously it should have been in a little nicer way. But TEXTING you that if your FH doesn't wear a black tux that it will be a trashy wedding is terrible and completely unacceptable from the mother of the groom. What did you say back?
