Any advise or ideas of how I can fuse the two together?
Not really sure what you're looking for but I would just focus on the glamour portion of it and work everything out of that, branching off. Like think the elegance of old hollywood and the time period and nightclubs; everyone was well dressed; white and black alike. So I think if you are doing the art deco 1920's-30's theme, if you focus on the TIME period, everything else will fall into place.
Are you trying for African elements such as those FROM Africa or African American? Because a way to incoporate AA in while keping with the deco theme would be focus on jazz elemnts; jazz song names for tables, or names of famous speakeasies. Pictures of famous musicians on the tables for the table numbers in b*W and washed out.
Things like the broom (jumping the broom right?) and unity candles, etc, I would just decorate in terms of your colors. Doesnt have to be 'themed' so to speak.
