Future bride in need of some serious planning help!

Future bride in need of some serious planning help!

I just got engaged before the holiday!
I'm not getting married until 2014 because I'm a panicer and I figured that gave me plenty of time...but I'm already freaking out!

Where did you start planning?
And did you get a planner/coordinator? Is it worth it?

I planned in a year, which I thought was plenty of time without panic.

My cousin just got engaged (Dec. 10) and she's getting married in 2013.

You have plenty of time!! Start by researching venues.

Budget is definitely something you should consider first. You will probably go over.. but you need an idea of what you want/or are willing to spend.

dont panic...you have plenty of time to plan things

As the other ladies said; figure out your budget
then come up with an estimate of how many you people you want to invite and then meet venues to go over pricing

- I just asked the same question on the 2013 board & this is pretty much what I'm taking from it.
I'm so glad I asked because I wouldn't have even thought about getting an estimate of guests before checking out locations!

ETA: - Congrats on your engagement!

it really depends on your family situation - for us, we drew a line at a generation - we invited everyone in the family up to second cousins, but nothing past that (so we didnt invite the kids of our parents cousins or their children). it would have been too unweildy

also you ahve to decide if you want kids at the wedding too - we had 2 in our BP and only about 10 others so we decided it was OK but some people are adament about not having kids

As the other ladies mentioned, step number one is budget and an estimate of the number of people you want to invite. I also sent you FM with a wedding planning timeline. Hope this helps. Good luck and congratulations.

First off congrats! Take a deep breath and enjoy your engagement, even though time goes by fast especially when you're planning a wedding I believe you have ample time to plan things and save up for a wedding...so come up with a budget, do research on RH and then go from there. Enjoy every moment and don't stress. Happy planning!

Congratulations on your engagement! This is a great time to be engaged with plenty of wedding excitement in the air and LIW to get great advice, seek answers, and sometimes just vent.

I agree with the ladies above that setting a budget and starting to build your guest list is important, but there are five first steps that brides should definately take before anything else:

1) Get the ring sized if its not already
2) Buy thank you cards - your family seems pretty big and you'll be getting plenty of engagement gifts (be it cards, cash, or kitchen items)
3) Track the return addresses, it'll even help you to build your guest list
4) Brush up on bridal etiquette, especially before you take first steps to planning, especially before you chose your bridal party
5) Have fun and find your bridal identity

Hope these suggestions help you! Congrats again!

Congrats!

I'm a 2014 bride as well

I started with budget, then created a tentative guest list. Right now, I'm working on booking all of my vendors. Then, I'll relax for a while before paying attention to all of the little details lol

best of luck!

Don't panic! I panicked about it too... omg did I panick lol, because going to see all the RH was getting overwhelming and crazy with the guest minimums (many wanted more than 100... and I hear you on budget) BUT I did TONS of research on here mostly and found ones that fit me and fell in love with the first location.
Now that the RH is booked, it feels amazing, less stressful, and like everything is going to just happen now. I honestly think the first step is the hardest. So, like everyone else says, figure out your guest amount, your budget and then go see a few halls.
Don't worry!!
