future MIL RANT

future MIL RANT

I just returned from a wonderful weekend at the abyss that is my future inlaws. My MIL is the most mercurial person I have ever met. She is totally Sybil!!!!

This weekend she was OUT OF CONTROL!!!!!!!

1. She told (whined) us at dinner that none of her friends are going to come b/c we are getting married on a Sunday.

-----Good - we can't afford all your friends anyway! Plus - you are a retired teacher- all you friends are teachers or retired..... don't they have the summers off....duh!

2. She TOLD ME to tell my mom that she bought her dress already and to tell my mom it's light blue!
--------Hellllo!!!! Isn't it supposed to be the other way around- my mom calls her to tell her what not to wear!
--------Light blue - THE COLOR OF MY BRIDESMAIDS DRESSES!!!!!!
She wants to match for family pictures!!!! Are you *@&$#*&@ kidding me?

3. And the the Marie Barone moment of the weekend.....wait for it......I showed her a picture of my dress * HUGE MISTAKE!!! *

Her words...'Do you really think you are going to be able to squeeze yourself into that dress?'

-----I assume she was talking about my chest size which I will give her is larger than hers but then again so is 90% of the free world.

----- I told my FH (through tears) and he said maybe I took it the wrong way. Then we heard a tap tap on the door. It was her! She came in to apologize to my FH!!!!!!!!! She said I had a Marie Barone moment and she thinks she might have hurt my feelings. Helllo! I was standing right there!

Finally, my FH realized that she really did say that and he decided to leave early. FINALLY. Years of side comments and she finally got caught. Now he is realizing that I have not just been hypersensitive.

OMG!!!!!! Is this woman for real? Thank God your FH is finally realizing what a crazy, not to mention RUDE, person she is. God bless you if you didn't tell her off.

I so sorry you had such a bad weekend!! Don't listen to your FMIL! She obviously does not know what she is talking about. I'm glad that you FH realized his mother was wrong. At least something good happened to you this weekend.

That's nuts! I couldn't hold my tongue back on all that. I don't know what I'd rather your FMIL or mine who happens to be like a dead fish...she has no opinion on anything almost seems uninterested that her only son is getting married!

I wish I could stick up for myself. I am such a wimp. Whenever I start to come back at anyone I cry or say something totally...stupid!

I am like the pee wee herman of comebacks!

Re: future MIL RANT

maybe we are marrying the same guy or a long lost brother because that woman sounds like a carbon copy of my FMIL!!! AHH!!! SCARY!!!!
as i'm reading what you wrote with my mouth wide open i'm like this is my life too!! I'm so sorry you have to go through this. When you wrote the Marie Barone moment I almost died because that is so her!!!! i can't even watch that show--it's just too close to reality.
My FMIL's Marie Barone moment was a few months before Halloween (last year, before I was engaged to my FH) when I suggested at dinner that my FH and I dress as Fred and Wilma Flintstone because we kinda look like them (me red hair, him dark hair) and she goes 'do you think you'll still be together at halloween, that long?' I WAS LIKE AM I ON ANOTHER PLANET?! WHO SAYS THAT?!!!
it's good that there are others of us that are in the same boat unfortunately. my sister is so lucky--her FMIL is great
About the dress color--that is CRAZY, she wants to MATCH the girls?!! The best is that my Mom said she really wants to wear navy blue and my FMIL (who already told me she was set on beige--she didn't wait for my mom to say first either!!) said to my mom, oh that was the exact color I wanted to wear... but you can have it, don't change for me (like my mom is supposed to feel bad for her now). ughhhhh she makes me so mad sometimes!!
i promise that i won't treat my future children's spouses like this--I PROMISE!!!
Until then, I'm praying for you, me, and everyone else in our position!

We are kindred spirits! It's great to know I am not the only one!

I just have to keep it together until the wedding. I also have another blessing...she lives out of state! I don't see her often but when I do it's usually for a few days.

Ha... i have to laugh... that is so wrong!! I only laugh cause i know EXACTLY how you feel!!! my FMIL makes stupid hurtful comments and such and then when i speak to FH about it and then he goes to her she is gets all snooty and is like she's being a tad sensitive dont you think.. then later in the conversation she will f-up and then he knows i am not telling long tails!!! uggggg!!!!

Try to find the humor in it! I know it is not easy and I would be PISSED if FMIL bought a dress before my mom and the same color as the bridesmaids!!

OMG, what *is* it with these women???????

G-d help me, if I ever have a son I will never be that kind of MIL to my FDIL.

Heck, I'll never be that kind of MIL to my FSIL!!!!!!

Although, with my family's track record, my kids may not be so lucky with their FILs. Two generations running of Monsters in Law!!!!!

geez...i am so sorry and can certainly sympathize. But look at it this way, your FMIL could be wearing something a lot worse than the same color of your bridesmaids....she could be wearing a wedding gown (mine is looking at one!)

If you want to chat FM me...i'm here for you if you need it.

the dress comment would have sent me off the deep end. I applaud you for holding your tongue!

My wedding was on a Sunday night and I didn't give a rat's @ss what my MIL and DH's family had to say about it (which was plenty). they're not paying for it, so go scratch
