that seems a little odd. because when we got engaged my aunt sent us a check & it was made out to my full name & FH's full name. i signed the back of the check & deposited it into my personal checking account. had no problem.

when ever i got to a wedding, i always write the check out to, 'Mr. & Mrs. John Doe' & no one ever told me they had a hassle depositing checks

Thanks for posting this! I think it depends on what bank you go to though. When my sister got married many people wrote 'Mr. and Mrs.' and she hasn't changed her name, but the checks still went through.

BUT... what really stinks is when people send you checks before your wedding, some of them put your wedding date as the date so then you can't deposit them until that date.

Before we got married, anytime we went to a wedding I always wrote the check out to Mr. and Mrs. _____ bc I thought the bride would be excited to see her new name!

NOW---I always give cash, write a check out to CASH or put the check in 1 person's name only (if we put the bride's name, I write her maiden name). Fortunately we had a joint acct for years B4 we got married, but if we hadn't it would have been a pain.

I always give checks at weddings written out for Cash

I'm going to add FH to one account so that we don't have this problem before the wedding

I think part of the problem that the didn't have a joint account here and were trying to deposit into his - and the name on the check didn't match her name yet. Everyone should open a joint account before they get married to avoid this type of a hassle
