FYI for anyone writing their own vows
In my never ending quest to design a civil ceremony that is perfect for us I was running a search today on writing your own vows. I came across a sort of 'how to' that said make sure you check the legal requirements for your state.
One would think that I would have done this FIRST, rather than having some random website tell me to do it, but so goes bride brain.![]()
In any event, New York does not require that silly statement about 'if anyone can show cause why these two should not be married etc' but it does require a public declaration that you take one another to be husband and wife. By public I mean in front of the officiant and at least one witness.
I mention this only because my ceremony didn't include an express declaration as required by law, and I've been struggling all day to fix it.
