FYI: When booking through a TA, make sure...UPDATE - cancelled w/In & Out Travel

you check online to see if you can get a better rate.

I was quoted $XYZ from the travel agent for our HM. While bored out of my skull at work, I decided to search Travelocity and see what their rates were...well, Travelocity came in at $1K less than what the TA quoted.

I immediately called the TA, and they're hopefully going to match the price.

UPDATE:

Last week I did a comparison of our honeymoon cost through our TA (In & Out Travel) vs. Travelocity.

Travelocity came in at $1,000 less, so I contacted In & Out Travel, and they told me that they'd research what was available, and see if they could match the price.

I called today for an update, and they were unable to match the price. I decided to cancel, b/c $1,000 is definitely worth it. We fortunately placed a deposit of $400 that will be refunded to us, minus $100 for whatever cancellation fees.

Just make sure you do your research ladies!!!

I currently have a call out to Halley at Beach Bum Vacations (thanks to Sasha) to get a comparison as well.

That's great! Your TA should stay on top of this... he/she should be constantly looking to see if there are better deals. The TA we used did this and a few other TAs we were thinking of going with also stated that this was part of their jobs.

That is exactly why I don't use a TA! When my mom went on her honeymoon a few years ago they booked a cruise through a TA and paid a fortune! Now we book direct and save tons of money!

I did something similar. I had the TA price out our trip and I priced it out myself online. I got a better deal, so I told the travel agent 'here's what I found. I'd prefer to deal with you just so we have a single point of contact for the entire trip, however you need to match what I found'. She did, no questions asked.

so, so true!!! we found our flights for $600 less pp on orbitz...our TA matched it, though....

We have minor issues with them. We could have saved about $600 had we booked it ourselves as opposed to going through In & Out. But we didn't find this out until it was too late.

The issues I have are small, but they are being taken care of. However 1 was only done after I had asked numerous times, and that bothered me a little. 2 things were never done at all, and I had to handle them myself.

Hindsight 20/20, if you can find a better deal on your own, then go for it!

Same thing here. Orbitz had the best price online, about 200 less per person. Liberty Travel was able to match it, so I'm booking with them! I also checked the resort directly and found it was more expensive. I thought that was a little strange. But this is a great tip.
