My FH and I fell in love and booked Jericho terrace for 6:30pm cocktail hour. Unfortunately we did this before we booked our ceremony. We want a ceremony at Old Westbury Gardens but the only time we can book is 10am-12. We have tried to either move up the reception or push back the ceremony but the vendors won't budge. Is a 6 hour time gap too long for guests? Or what could we do to pass the time?

Re: Gap between cermony and reception
I was just discussing this with FH. Ceremony is 2-3 CH is 7 and we have OOT'ers.
What I'm doing is having a little 'reception' at my aunts house with some light food and drinks so people have somewhere to go if they need it.

That sounds like a great idea. It would also allow time for picture taking.

Would you change or stay in your dress during the gap?

That is a really long time gap. I am not sure about your other guests, but I think that can be a lot to ask of people. In my opinion, I don't think all of your guests will come to the ceremony, so you need to decide how important that is to you.

Re: Gap between cermony and reception
We are having the people who come go back to the hotel where we reserved rooms and we will figure it out from there.
you can go take your pics then but you'll have to make sure you book enough time for your photographer to stay all that time!!

Re: Gap between cermony and reception
One of my vendors told me there shouldn't be more than 3 hours between the ceremony and the CH. But if you have a lot of OOTO guests, they're going to need time to go to the hotel and check in. I think 6 hours may be pushing it though.

Re: Gap between cermony and reception
Do you have a lot of family close by? If so, then it's not the end of the world because everyone can go home and change before the reception. Even if you have a lot of OOT'ers, those guests can go back to the hotel to relax.
We have gap between our ceremony and reception but we're getting married on a Friday night and our guests have to travel over a bridge.
Ceremony - 2pm - 3:00pm, then probably will have to say hello to people so figure 3:30pm... then 3:30pm - 4:30/45pm pictures
4:30pm - 6:30pm - Travel time/Arrival at RH... We (BP and Immediate family) can get there as early as 5:30pm though.
Another issue is the amount of additional money you'll be spending on vendors...it'll most likely increase the cost of photography/videography by a lot to have such a long gap.
