i am having a garage sale in 2 weeks. i have so much junk to get rid of as i am moving to australia. it is mostly clothes and books and a few nice things like jewellery boxes etc. my sister is selling some kids stuff, too.
my question is i have never had a garage sale. anyone have any tips? what can i do to draw people in? is an ad in newsday or the pennysaver better? do i need a permit ( i am in town of oyster bay)? any thing else i may be missing?
TIA!!

Re: garage sale
First of all, post signs in areas with a lot of traffic and try to do an ad in the pennysaver. There are also some websites where you can advertise your garage sale too. I dont know if you need a permit, i dont need one in huntington. Also, whatever price you put on anything, people will offer you about half of what you are asking, so i usually mark stuff up a little. I had one last year and i had a crapload of tank tops, some of them were only worn a few times like the rhinestone ones from the Gap and i marked it $3 and people wanted to pay $1 for it.
