garden city hotel

Hi ladies,

I'm planning a wedding in new york , but i live in california. Have any of you looked at the garden city hotel. It looks nice online but i'd love any feedback that anybody may have. Does anybody know how much they charge per person?

Thank you,
dm

I've heard positive and negative reviews. It's beautiful but I've heard people say they expected more for the amount they were spending.

Re: garden city hotel

We almost booked the Garden City Hotel and for March which is offpeak we were going to pay $150 pp!

We could have just barely done it if we maxed everything out and I actually went home that night and cried cause I was so confused - I fell head over heels for the grand ballroom - it literally made me feel like royalty but didn't know how we were going to pay for it AND it felt like we weren't even getting that much in the amount of food (both our families are VERY big on being impressed with an overabundance of food so that was important to us)

Then we went out the next day and stumbled upon the Fox Hollow and just knew it was perfection.

But bottom line Garden City Hotel is BUT definitely top notch and their main ballroom is exquisite!!!!!!

ETA: Fox Hollow gave us more than twice the amount of food for 2/3 of the price.

I went there 2 yrs ago for a company holiday dinner party in one of their ballrooms. It is beautifully decorated and very upscale. The food was tasty but there was not a lot on the plate and it was more about the presentation.

Not sure what type of guests you will have, but my guests like to see quantity and quality of food, so unfortunately I did not inquire with them.

Hope that helped.

My friend's wedding was just there but I didn't get to go. My brother said everything was top of the line and it was the nicest wedding he's been to (and we've been to A LOT of weddings!). But I know that they paid $285/head (that # includes tax and gratuity) for a Saturday night in October.

I have been to one wedding there. It was a Friday night affair. For what they paid I really thought it would have been more. The room was nice and of course the hotel is gorgeous but the food is just ok and not much of a display.

Garden City hotel is a little on the pricey, side, but if its within your budget I heard its very nice...

Check out:
Weddingfacilitiesandservices.com and you can easily be connected with a ton of info on different reception places, they give capacity, price range, cuisine type, etc.

I work down the block from them, and we have had many luncheons there. It's a beautiful place, and the food is really good there.

I had my wedding there and I loved it. I have received so many compliments on the food and service. It is expensive, but I thought it was worth every penny. I couldn't have dreamed a more perfect wedding.

Re: garden city hotel

never been to a wedding there, BUT i did stay there on my wedding nite and thought it was TOTALLY overpriced for what it was..
its nice, but not worth the money IMHO just to spend the nite....i think you pay more for the the 'garden city' name like a previous poster said..
i will say though, that maybe its because i didnt spend TOO much time there that it wasnt worth it for me..the place is beautiful,
maybe better suited for weddings then just a nite to stay somewhere...good luck!

fh and i went there and they were SNOBS!!! sorry they talked to us like we couldnt afford it. we asked to see a room and they wouldnt even take us and we had an appt. i may not be a milliionaire but who are they to think i didnt have the money. oh well took my wedding else where. and i have over 60 people from ireland that may have been staying there. THERE LOSS. my gain in my pocket. sorry that is just my opinion.

I think the hotel is really nice i was also looking at this place i love their ballroom, but i honestly wasnt too impressed by their menu selections. It seemed as if you didnt get enough for your money and their menu just didnt appeal to me very much. If your heart is really set on this place then negotitate with them to thrown in extra stations for you, more entree selections, etc.
