I'm a LI bride who does not have her heart set on any specific catering hall yet, playing with the idea of having the wedding at Gargiulos in Brooklyn. My FH has been eating there with his father since he's a kid. The food is AWSOME and the place is beautiful.
The only thing is I'm not sure if it's very expensive for a wedding? I also wanted to know if having the ceremony there is practical. Or better yet, are there any parks or other pretty outdoor places to have a ceremony nearby. We aren't getting married in a house of worship - any ceremony ideas if we use Gargiulos for the reception? I know it's not a cheap place to eat dinner at so I'm not sure how crazy expensive it would be to have a wedding there, although I do wonder if maybe FFIL could talk to them and get the price to be reasonable due to the long term relationship that exists.
I haven't even mentioned my interest in doing this with FH yet - I want to get the details first. I remember our first Valentines day dinner was at Gargiulos - a month before we got engaged - and FH and I got the tour of the kitchen and the facility. It has special significance that's why I want to look into it, but I know nothing about Brooklyn.

Re: Gargiulos in Brooklyn
My school is having our end of the year party at this place....I don;t live in Brooklyn and have only been working there for a year so I really am not familiar with the area.
Do they have a website?/ Why don't you call them and ask them about their prices??
Edited to add
Here is their website http://www.gargiulos.com/
It looks really nice...

Re: Gargiulos in Brooklyn
I actually live pretty close to there. I went there once for Valentine's Day and holiday food is always bad, but they weren't. FH's (Italian) family really likes it there. My parents grew up in Brooklyn. I think even they like it there (Jewish). The food is very good. The only thing I would wonder about is the size. Make sure they can manage whatever number you want to have. Also, some people care about this, some don't: Driving up to it is like driving up to a manchine among shacks. The area has gone pretty downhill over the years, famous as it is. Again, I don't know that that's such a big deal. As for a place for an outdoor ceremony, they're right by Coney Island Beach. I have absolutely no idea how the city feels about that or if that would be feasable for you. As for parks, the closest real park is Marine park--maybe good for pics, but I don't know that people really do weddings there. If you're gonna do a Brooklyn park, go to Prospect Park b/c there are parts of that park that are absolutely gorgeous. It's probably about 20-30 minutes from the restaurant. But, make sure you have a back-up plan for rain!

I just wanted to say that FI's grandparents had their wedding reception had their reception there over 55 years ago! They are always talking about how much they love it (FI's grandparents are very Italian!).
