Garment District advice anyone??
Hi Ladies,I recieved a swatch of my bridesmaid dress from the manufacturer, and now I want to go hunting for material in that color so that I can have a Jr. Bridesmaid dress made. Anyone have advice as to what fabric stores to check out? I figured my best bet would be the garment district, but I really don't know where to go!
Thanks!

I think you're better off going to Rag Shop..

On 39th Street you can literally find virtually any fabric you could possibly want/need/think of. Just bring a swatch to the shops near 7th Avenue and you will find it in no time.

my mom and I went around the garment district looking for a sash for our FG...we ended up buying the material from the manufacturer...so they would be exact...it was like $20/yard though...

Re: Garment District advice anyone??
That's what I'm afraid of. They wanted 75 bucks extra to turn my bridesmaid dress into a jr. bridesmaid dress by making it into a tank style instead of a halter. Or, charge 40 extra to order a small size and make drastic alterations. Either way, it was a complete ripoff to charge full price of this dress for a 9 year old girl. I can only imagine what they'll charge for the material. But I'll ask....

Have you thought about asking your dress maker for sources? Or if you don't have a dress maker, may be speak with Karen Yngesvotter? Since she makes custom gowns, she has to know where to get the fabric... right?

Re: Garment District advice anyone??
The dressmaker is actually the Jr. Bridesmaids grandma. She's very talented, but doesn't do it often because she hates it! So funny. To have such an unbelieveable talent for it, but hate it!I'm going to hunt a little bit, see if I can find something close, be it lighter or darker...and go from there.
Thanks ladies!
