For those who have done it, or are in the process, what is the best way to go about doing it and when should I start (I get married in March - not sending out a save the date).

Re: GAthering Addresses
I got a lot of mine for my e-party, but I still need a ton more. I actually asked my mom and aunts and cousins to hand over their address books and I copied whoever I needed. FH's family is another story, I will probably be waiting on those forever, his mom is not much help, we aren't that close to her

Re: GAthering Addresses
i had to do it for my e-party and yes it is a pain. Ask you parents to give you a list and make sure they get all the addresses, same for his parents. Then you ask your friends and also get your FH's list with addresses.

Re: GAthering Addresses
i figure it's never too early to start gathering addresses. ask your parents, family, friends and keep them recorded. i use the weddingchannel.com guest list manager that organizes the names of my guests, their dates, addresses, phone numbers and the such. very helpful. or start an excel spreadsheet. then when it gets closer double check the addresses before you send out invites. i don't think there's an easy way to do it. or if you have a family member who is gung ho about your wedding, you can give the responsibility to someone you trust and have them keep track of it for you.
Yeah it was a pain for my e-party. I saved it for my wedding.

Re: GAthering Addresses
UGH! OK...I guess I will start by contacting people by email...and then move on to parents...etc.
My fiance (is that FH?) only has 3 famiy members - yes, 3 - so that is EASY! I have 90!

yes fh means your fiance, it stands for future husband.
With my friends i sent out an email and asked for their addresses, it was so easy, just one email to all of them lol and FH did the same

Re: GAthering Addresses
We had to do it for the e-party and stds. It wasnt too bad b/c FMIL pulled out her list from FBILs bar mitzfa (like 12 yrs ago) and updated against families lists who recently got married. Then I called my grandmother for others (she writes a lot of letters) Oh, and e-mail helps- we emailed people we didnt have addresses for or we knew moved.
I would start now, that way you dont have to scramble when its time to send them.

Re: GAthering Addresses
We're in the process of doing it right now...I hijacked my mom's address book!
I think I'm not one for 'microsoft excel' crap. I like handwriting everything...I work better when I need to write things out....does that make sense or am I a loon?

Re: GAthering Addresses
I am not looking foward to that at all!! Our parents have been such a pain with getting things together for us. Just asking for a tentitive Guest list was hard enough, I can imagine looking and calling them for addresses

Re: GAthering Addresses
we just sent our save the dates...i got them over a month ago and it took me this long b/c i didn't want to deal w the address thing.
but honestly, it's not that bad. you just have to do it. once you have them all it's like a little weight lifted b/c you know you have them and it's one less thing to worry about.
i reviewed the guest list w my FMIL, we both sat w our address books, and as we went any i didn't have she gave me. then i called my mom and did the same over the phone. then i called my grandma and did the same. then same w my dad.
it was a pain in the neck but now i HAVE THEM!
i think you should just do it now and get it out of the way instead of waiting until it gets closer and you have other things to worry about.

we are almost done gathering all the addresses. it's definitely a chore. Emailing people was VERY helpful =)

Re: GAthering Addresses
I think you should start as soon as possible. At least start a spreadsheet of people you know, like family. Luckily I had my Christmas list and a list of FH's friends from his 30th birthday party.
