GAthering Addresses

Original post by surfersgirl

What a PAIN!

For those who have done it, or are in the process, what is the best way to go about doing it and when should I start (I get married in March - not sending out a save the date).

Re: GAthering Addresses

I started as soon as we got engaged over almost a year ago. It's never too early. We didn't send out STD either.

So I created a spread sheet, alphabetized all the guests names and have been filling it in, ever since. I printed a blank spread sheet and whenever there is a family gathering I take it and have those who haven't filled it out, write their address.

It's a pain, but if you start now, it will save you a headache later

Re: GAthering Addresses

We had to do it for our e-party - I took my parents' address book and just typed everything out.

For my shower, I asked my mom to please by an address book and it can be passed around at the shower so I have everyone's address and phone number and I don't have to hand write it myself!

Start now!!! I tried to get FH to get me addresses MONTHS ago b/c I was going to send STDs, but I never got to....

Now I want to send out the invites next week and I'm still missing a few from him... and one from my dad... It's a guy thing!

Re: GAthering Addresses

Yea I would do this now.

I had pretty much 75% of the list completed in November of last year. I had about 95% when the STD's were sent out and now we only are missing two addresses that NO ONE can find so they may not get invited since FH's family can't figure out who has their number and/or address.

It really makes life easier and enter them into a database so it is easier to read and print out a proof and go over it with your family/fh this way there are no typographical errors.

Mine wasn't as bad as I thought.

Here is what I did.

I got my FH's list from his sister, she got married a few years ago, and, I took her list, and went over it with his mom, and went from there.

I got my friends list from another friend who got married in April. We have the same friends, so, I just had to add, and take out a few.

I did my family list with my mother.

So, I suggest talking to family to see if anyone recently married already has parts of your list!

ETA: I then typed everything into 3 different excel spreadsheets, and then combined into 1 spreadsheet (I used word, because I'm not great with excel, but, don't tell my resume that!)

Re: GAthering Addresses

I started last year by email...I keep a pretty good Christmas card address book...but anyone's I didn't have, I'd email family who would have them...and a lot I did under the pretense of needing Christmas card addresses...(just in case they don't make the final guest list!!!)
and friends, I made a mental note of who I needed, and would ask people as I'd see them. I still need about 10 I'd say...but, it was REALLY good to start early...takes the panic out of it!!
