Getting free items with registries?

Getting free items with registries?

Hi Girls, the FH and I are looking into Bed Bath &Beyond as well as Macys for our registry. Does anyone know if you get 'points' or anything for items purchased? We were @ a bridal expo last week and we talked to a woman from (ugh I forgot the name!... a company that does home visits for you and your friends...???) and if you set up a registry with them you accumulate points and then can buy whatever you want after your wedding.

If you register with Macy's (and you are a cardholder) you get 5% rewards on anything purchased off your registry. There are also bonus gifts if people purchase X amount of a certain brand (like Calphalon, Wedgewood, etc) and you can complete the registry at 10% off.

This is all fresh in my head because we just started our Macy's registry last weekend!

I registered at BB&B and certain brands have free bonus items.

At Macy's you also get certain gifts if you regiser for X amount of certain brands, regardless of the amount purchased. For instance, we already got 2 5x7 Waterford frames, a Calphalon knife, a Kitchenaid spatula....and nothing has bee bought yet! The 5% back is great too, it adds up and you get it back as a gift card I believe!

So would it be worth it to get a Macy's card for this reason alone? It sounds like a pretty good deal, but I HATE credit cards!

I registered for like 5 rs one day and they told us to take a break and get food bring back the receipt and they paid for our dinner (nothing fancy but still a good deal).

I got a free knife set, a cookbook, a recipe holder, and like 2 or 3 other things from our registry at BBB.

We also attended an event and we got 20% off our entire purchase of anything that was left on our registry.

Plus the return policy is insanely AWESOME! You can bring anything back for either store credit or cash....anything, even stuff without boxes. (I know b/c I had a shoe rack and put it together and threw the boxes out---then about 2 weeks later the whole thing colapsed and they took it back)

Yeah the store has forms you have to fill out. The girl that registered us filled them out and mailed them out for me. I would go to a store and ask.

Re: Getting free items with registries?

Just so you know- my fiance and I registered at Macys for about 4 hours- we then went to bedbathandbeyond- and we changed everything from our registry that we could over because everything was cheaper at bbb. In my opinion yes, Macy's offers you 5% bonus, but why would you want your guests (family and friends) to pay more for a gift just so you could have the 5% back? That's what my fiance and I discussed. So we changed everything over that was the same to BBB rather than Macys. We kept whatever we couldn't change over on the Macy's registry.

It's up to you guys- but I just thought it would be helpful to keep that in mind :O)

Good luck!
