Getting in shape

Getting in shape

I don't really like to work out, and I have fallen out of the habit of working out regularly. I have 6 months until my wedding and I would like to be in shape. Does anyone have any advise or suggestions for about how often I should work out and what to do to get in shape?

Re: Getting in shape

i did kickboxing about 3-4 times a week for an hour each time and i lost inches off my waist. It's fun and easy. I haven't really changed my eating habits at all - which is the great thing!

good luck!

Re: Getting in shape

i go to master parela's kickboxing (i think that's how it's spellled). It's off of glen cove road (near the roosevelt field mall) on voice road. It was about 150 for 2 months. First class is free!

I lost weight too - about 9 lbs in 3/4 months. . . but i have to say that in the last two months or so I wasn't consistent w/ going to kickboxing b/c I was gearing up for finals and my engagement party - so i'm sure u could lose more. But the biggest difference is in the inches you lose off your waist -- ur clothes won't fit. . .

it's a good feeling :)

Re: Getting in shape

Last summer FH and I needed to loose a few pounds b/c we were in my MOH BP and we couldn't afford a gym and didn't really have the time so we started walking. We walked about 3 miles every day (1.5 miles one way) and we lost those few extra pounds, spent quality time and it didn't take too much time out of our day. We got it down to 50 min by the time the wedding happened. (started at about an hour and 15 min or so) If we were tired we took it at a slower pace. It wasn't quite power walking all of the time but wasn't a stroll. We also cut out junk and very fatty foods but nothing strict or crazy. I just switiched to fruit salad instead of candy- otherwise I ate mostly the same things.

For our wedding we'll only have about a month to really get slim so we'll be joining a gym. We are looking forward to it tho. It's a pain at first but becomes addicting after a while. We are also going to join with some of our BP so that'll be fun too. Good luck!

Re: Getting in shape

I like the idea of kickboxing. I have done it before...however, I called 6 months before the wedding 'dooms day' to get in shape. I found out I have a problem with my neck so I am now in physical therapy, and I am not allowed to work out the way I wanted to. I hate working out! I like that I am not allowed to right now. Hopefully, I will get on the ball when I am cleared to start exercise. My problem is always that I get bored with doing the same work out.

Thanks for the sympathy and suggestions ladies!

what about yoga?

I have a rowing machine and it's the only way I can lose weight that is tolerable to me. Even just 10 minutes every morning and I see the difference. Plus cut out the snickers bars.

I go to aerobic classes 3- 4times a week and i go to a personal trainer 2 times a week for an hour. the personal trainer really helped me...she pushes me to work out and that is what i need. I saw results quickly too.

Re: Getting in shape

with the transit strike last week I added walking to work as part of my workout. Otherwise I go to the gym Sat and Sunday and do the elliptical trainer and weights and abs. I try to go to the gym at work 2x week and do an abbreviated version of that. I think I will keep the walk on dry days instead of the subway.

How long would a person need a personal trainer...I think I will need one for sure because when it comes to going to the gym, this will help with motivation for me.

I'm working out with my personal trainer 3X's a week. Monday, Wednesday and Friday I do cardio and weight training with him and on the other days I ride my exercise bike for 45 minutes and do crunches. He also gave me a diet which I think has helped alot! So far I've lost 30 pounds since June and from a size 12 to a comfortable 8

My advice is start off slow. Start walking! Its cheap and convenient. Build yourself up - distance, pace etc. Its a great work out. Helps with your stamina and will kepe you healthy. Its something you can do forever. Good luck gettin' fit!
