I was baptized as a Catholic but before my confirmation, my parents converted into born again Christians. I never go into it so I never made the conversion as a teen. Now that I am about to get married, I've been wanting to have a church ceremony. I am not sure the Church will let me back after over 10 years not stepping into a Catholic chuch. I do heard if you didn't confirm in another religion yet was Catholic, you're still Catholic. FH is Catholic but hasn't stepped into a church in a long time as well (yet have all the sacraments, including confimation). He said he doesn't care if we get married in the Church or at the RH, as long as he's married to me in the end. My family (the majority are now Christians) will be mad if I get married in the Church. I really don't know what to do. Should I pursue a Church wedding or appease my family and have one of their pastors do the ceremony? This is getting sticky!

Re: getting married in the Church
I am sure you will be able to get married in the church. You have to remember that no matter what you do, not everyone will be happy with your choice. Decide with your FH what is really important and everyone else will have to deal!

Re: getting married in the Church
do what YOU want. I'm 100% non-practicing catholic and I didn't feel comfortable with the whole church thing - I wanted the ceremony at the RH - makes it easier on everyone. My family was skeptical and had misgivings at first - I will be the only one to not get married in a church. I told them a priest was marrying me which made them feel better (they don't need to know that i probably won't be recognized by the R.C. Church).
I feel so much better because I was stressing about doing what other people wanted, and I didn't give in. You'll feel better doing it the way you want, trust me! good luck

Re: getting married in the Church
I always wanted to get married in a catholic church and FH wanted to be married outside. FH parents didn't want him to be married in a catholic church b/c they are Baptist. But in the end I got my way but the only thing that was weird was that I had to sign a piece of paper that I would raise my kids up to be catholic. I didn't care because I wanted to do that anyways even tho I'm not religious.

They probably don't care that you or FH haven't been there in 10+ years (they won't even know that much unless you say it).. I'm not sure about the confirmation part though.. I had to show both my baptism and confirmation certificate and so did FH before the church would even block my date, but your church may be different because my church is strict with EVERYTHING. You should see the set of rules my church handed me for the ceremony.. and they wonder why not as many people get married in churches anymore..

Re: getting married in the Church
Thanks for the replies so far. FH and I talked earlier this evening and it seems like we're leaning towards forgoing the church ceremony and get married at the RH. At the same time, I don't want to use my brother's pastor since I am not a Penticostal and doesn't speak that much English, which will be a problem on FH's side who can't speak Spanish. I also don't want someone who can only conduct a 5-minute quickie ceremony too. Sheesh, this is hard.
