Getting married on a Friday during lent.....

Getting married on a Friday during lent.....

Is anyone tailoring their menu for lent? I personally am not very religious (i.e. why I just thought about this now!) although I come from a roman catholic family. My FH is Jewish. We have 8 options as it stand: 3 Beef (lamb, filet, veal) 1 Chicken, 2 Seafood, 1 Pork (I think this is no-no on Fridays too), and 1 Veg. Do you think it's worth speaking with my BM to substitute another chicken or fish dish for one of the above? Or is this an adequate selection for any practicing attendees (which I suspect will be a considerable amount). I love my menu as it stands, but I would totally make a change if necessary.

I guess I have to re-think my carving station too now! I had my heart set of the leg of lamb and the suckling pig...Oh well =)

Thanks yall!

if most of the people attending observe lent-- its prob a good idea to substitute one of your meat dishes for another fish or veg option. i'm not sure how most people are, but i know in my family for lent we don't eat chicken on fridays either- only fish (or pasta or pizza but i don't think you want that as a main course! lol)

Wow! I didn't even think of this. I'm in the same boat as you. I'm from a Catholic family, but I left the catholic church for Don-denominational Christianity several years ago. I think it sounds like you have enough options for your practicing guests. Thanks for posting this!

yeah, if majority of your guests are no meat eaters on the fridays of lent.. i would def make another choice for them, considering how hard it will be to see all the temptation haha but it is your day so go for what you feel!

or leave as is and explain to your venue that you may have more than usual ordering fish/veggie options.

You're not supposed to eat any meat during lent (on Fri) including chicken. Seafood is okay. Maybe add another option that's vegetarian or take off one of the beef options?

Thanks everyone. I think I am going to talk to my RC about doing a substituion...Sand Castle has a pre-determined menu, so hopefully they will be flexible considering the circumstance. Enjoy your weekends!

We did and it was no issue at all. There was a ton of CH food that was not meat and our hall had 11 entree options. If it was only 3, then maybe we would've thought twice. But, take into consideration all of the CH food, your guest won't go hungry!

I think you would be fine to leave your menu as is. You are already offering two seafood dishes and a veggie dish and 3 choices are plenty!! The cocktail hour will also have plenty of food options that anyone can eat- keep the lamb!!

I would totally cheat too.... So I was actaully talking to my good friend about this the other day and she told me one of her friends had the same issue and the friend's mother who was paying for the wedding asked her priest what to do and he told her to just give up meat on Saturday! Anyway, I thought that was funny so I had to share. There will be plenty of food I figure - I think after hearing that I am just going to keep it how I originally planned :)

It isn't stated anywhere in the Bible. FH and I looked it up, he never follows and honestly, I forget! One of the reasons for it was to help out the fishing economy!

I guess I am a bad Catholic because I would be ordering the steak.

Yea I wouldn't worry about it I think you'll be fine. I had this issue when I thought that I was going to have a 2013 wedding but wound up moving it to 2014 and January not March lol but I was just going to bank on people forgetting or being poor catholics haha. Sand Castle offers you a million options at CH so I would not worry about. Maybe just make some of the hot chaffing dishes non meat for those that are religious to eat so by the time they eat their salad and appetizer they'll be full and just wait for the VH. I love Sand Castle lol

i DID, I Had a lot of fish in the cocktail hour, asked for no pork in the pasta, and the priest said people are excused. No one complained, and i had both Jews and Catholics.
