Anyone doing a unity candle at their outside ceremony? Not sure if I should do one and how to do it.

Re: Getting married outside
I had my Ceremony outside and incorporated a Unity candle. It wasn't until we were at the alter, lighting the candles that I thought about the trouble a breeze could cause. There was just ever so slightly a breeze and my candle flickered a lot so I had to cup my hand around the candle until the actual moment we lit the Unity candle. It's not a very long time, but then I worried about the Unity candle blowing out.
The guests were far enough away that they couldnt really see the candle burning so even if it did go out it wouldn't have mattered.
Speak to your officiant and ask him/her what he/she would do in case of a windy day. The officiant can also discuss different ways to light the candle. For example, we had our moms light candles then give them to us so we could light the Unity candle, symbolizing the joining of our families.
My ceremony was outside but buffered by a wall and fence (the Estate at East Wind patio). If your ceremony is in a very breezy spot, say overlooking the water, you might have a major concern about the candle staying lit.
Even with the wind trouble, I'm glad I had the Unity candle as part of the ceremony.

Re: Getting married outside
We are having our ceremony outside also (hopefully depending on weather) and our officiant told us to purchase one of those huricane candles (candle with the glass around it) so the flame would be protected from the breeze.

We're getting married outside under a gazebo type thing. We bought a regular unity candle, and I'm hoping it doesn't go out.

Re: Getting married outside
I am getting married outside (God willing) and I bought 3 hurricanes from Illuminations.com They had a great price and this way I will have them just in case.

I am getting married outside, too, and we also wanted to do a unity candle. I never really thought of the wind, and the trouble it could cause. The hurricanes are a great idea!

Re: Getting married outside
I'm getting married outside also and I am going to do a unity candle, I do like the idea of a hurricane to prevent the wind blowing it out. I'm not sure I will have a problem in August though?
