Getting my dress pressed ...

Getting my dress pressed ...

I have to ship my dress to NY before the wedding. Does anyone know where I can get it pressed and about how long it will take??

I was thinking of shipping the dress out the week of 10-25 (2 day fed ex). Is that enough time before the 12th?

i dont want to either, but i am coming in Thursday morning and the wedding is Sat. morning- my mom is having a heart attack about having the dress in NY two weeks in advance. She trusts it more going fedex than with me on a plane!

OK, as another California bride...I have the same question! I have no idea where I'm supposed to take the dress for pressing.

MrsBrad, are you positive you're using FedEx? Are you going to insure it? I'm still on the fence about bringing on the plane vs. shipping.

I am not positive - but what reassures me is that a lot of ppl order their dresses via netbride and stuff. I would definitely insure it - not that it would help the situation. I cant really ever think of a time when I ordered something and shipped it and it didnt arrive. Am I correct in thinking that?

If I bring it home on the plane then I can get in pressed in LA and carry it on the plane - but who is to say it wont get wrinkled on the plane - esp because my dress is silk! Someoen told me to keep it in the flight attendant closet, but I looked at that last time I flied and it was a small closet - I know my dress wont fit and I am NOT putting it under the plane - I think my chances of losing dress are higher that way!

AHHH! What are we going to do!?!?

I would definitly ship it. Probablt best to fed it, insure it, & make sure someone has to sign for it. I had my dress pressed at a great drycleaners in Miller Place for my wedding. It came out beautiful! It might be to far for you though, but maybe your mom knows a good drycleaners, if she talks to them first, maybe they'll tell her if they can do it. If your interested in the drycleaners name FM & I'll look up the details.

Do you have the name of the cleaners in Miller Place? It's not TOO far from my mom's.

I keep getting such conflicting advice about shipping the dress. It seems like either people wouldn't dream of shipping it, or they wouldn't dream of flying with it! I just can't decide which kind of person I am!

honestly best thing is to ship it because - they can say it is too big to bring on and then it can go underneath which can be terrible and there is a cap on damages for lost package
