Getting Our Stuff Home after the Wedding

I'm in a bit of a pickle. FH and I leave for our honeymoon the morning after our wedding. Our flight leaves at 8am which means we have to be at the airport at 5-530 since we're flying internationally (FMIL booked our flight so this was out of our hands).

I'm worried about how we're going to get our stuff (gift box, toasting flutes, wedding dress, tux) back home in between the wedding and leaving for our honeymoon. Our wedding ends at 5.30 so I guess we could have the limo take us to our house first to drop our stuff off and then to the hotel, but I'm afraid that'll kill any after-party momentum. On the other hand, I don't want to wake up at 3am to drive home and drop our stuff off.

I made a mental list of everything we have to take home with us after the wedding, and it's pretty long. I feel bad asking my mom to be responsible for all of it. Help! Lol. Is this something a DOC could help with?

I recommend waking up at 3 am. Sounds like a hassle but I think it would be best so that you can then sleep on the plane and you don't have to worry about anything being done incorrectly.
Don't go home after the wedding to do this, your guests would be disappointed if you aren't there on time and it will change the momentum. I would only consider doing this is if you live about 10 minutes away.

Getting Our Stuff Home after the Wedding

I wouldnt go home between the reception and the after party, I definitely think it would change the momentum. A DOC could help with the situation, I know mine would be willing to take whatever I want home with her at the end of the night and hold it for me till I can come get it. If you dont have a DOC I would talk to your mom and/or FMIL, they might be more than willing to help take stuff for you once they knows your situation.

A DOC would definitely help with this. You could also ask a close family member to take it with them? I wouldn't want to ask my mom or FMIL just because I wouldn't want them to have to worry about that but a cousin or aunt would be perfect.

I agree with the other ladies. A DOC would def help. dropping it off would be a hastle for you as well as kill the after party. Is there any family members like an aunt who aren't going to the after party that could take some stuff home for you?

Re: Getting Our Stuff Home after the Wedding

I don't know how your parents, or some of the bridal party are getting there but if they have a car maybe they can take some stuff home for you and you can pick it up after the honeymoon? I mean they can take it with them at the very end of the night. I know I'm putting my mom in charge of the card box since she isn't staying at the hotel and it will be safe that way.

Getting Our Stuff Home after the Wedding

My mom is going right home after the wedding, but I feel bad placing the entire burden on her. I could work something out with my sisters. One of them is staying at the hotel so I could arrange to leave some of the stuff in her hotel room so I don't have to worry about it. She's super reliable.

2 of FH's groomsmen are super reliable, so we can always ask one of them to help also.

I'm starting to come around to a DOC. Now I can see how they're super helpful.

This is one of the main reasons why I got a DOC. I know I have a ton of stuff to bring to the reception and then back home and I knew it would be so much easier if there was a DOC to help take care of it.

Getting Our Stuff Home after the Wedding

Because of the amount of stuff we need taken home at the end of the reception, we plan to ask aunts & uncles to help with holding on to a tote or two to take home for us & we would get it after the honeymoon/my parents would pick it up during the week. I'm sure relatives & friends won't mind helping you out with something like this!

personally I would either do this, or have my own mother take everything home for me and not worry about it all until after the honeymoon. those are probably the only 2 ways I could see myself not stressing about it.

Re: Getting Our Stuff Home after the Wedding

definitely a DOC or some venues will hold your things until the next morning then you can enlist the MOH to pick the things up and bring them to your place while you are on the plane :)

Thanks for the advice. I never thought about a DOC until now. What should I look for? What questions should I ask? I have everything basically squared away, but it would be nice to have someone deal with logistics and BS the day of.

The venue should pack it up for you. Just have to find someone to take it. We are sleeping at our venue so I assume they will take care of it.

I'll probably see if the venue will hold it for us until the next day or see if the DOC can take it to the hotel for us.

BTW, Once Upon an Event has a groupon going for a DOC. I'm not using them but I've heard they're great! http://www.groupon.com/deals/once-upon-an-event?c=all&p=3

This was the original reason I got a doc before I met with and found out how great cheeky was! You're going to be exhausted after the wedding I know I am! I also didn't want any family members to 'work' it sounds like the most important thing would be the hours they'll be available to you. It was cheeky's excitement that sold me.

Getting Our Stuff Home after the Wedding

you may not need a doc to coordinate this - i was shocked at how efficiently my maitre d handled this for us. the servers packed everything (and i mean EVERYTHING - I had probably 20 boxes of stuff) up for us within 20 mins at the end of the night.
if you cant fit it in the limo, im sure a family member can help take some of it home.

if you're concerned about it, talk to the catering hall about it. they're professionals at this - do it all the time, and im sure they wont forget any of your stuff.

BAD idea to leave your belongings, including cards/ gifts at the venue. You never know what kind of cleanup crew may have access to your stuff.

I definitely suggest either a DOC or asking a family member to take it home for you. A DOC could help load the family members car, or they could hold onto your belongings. I can offer my DOC as a suggestion. Shes been VERY helpful so far and I really do like her. EAEvents.weebly.com
