getting pregnant

getting pregnant

Anyone else worry about the time frame of when to try for a baby?

I am in school earning my Masters in teaching and working full time.

Yet, I don't want to wait until I am done with my Student teaching to get pregnant because I will be thirty by that time. But if I have a baby before my student teaching, I will need to take time off for baby (unpaid) and then leave of absence for student teaching (also unpaid).

Anyone else in the same type of predicament?

Our first goal is to get a house then get pregnant since I have a one bedroom co-op.

BUT....we are planning our future pregnancy around my career since I am a CPA....my plan is to get pregnant and be due after April 15th...not so far after that so I can have the 'freedom' to go on maternity leave.

I will be 32 when we get married...so I understand where you gals are coming from.

I think so many people are in the same situation. Its so hard to juggle the things that have to get done and the things we want to get done before we have children. DH and I feel the pressure because he wanted to graduate law school before we had a baby. Now that I am having health problems we feel that having a baby is our priority.

Its hard to manage having a baby and demands from school and work, but I think it can be done, if you wanted to. Everyone is different and have to base their decisions on their ability to handle stress, and their own specific situations.

ideally we would like to buy a house first too, but I don't know when thats going to happen, so...

PLUS everyone always says that if you wait for the ideal situation you will be waiting forever...

I don't know though- I am so anal sometimes that I don't think I could wrap my brain around how the heck we could pull it off if we don't wait..

I agree with the house issue. FH and I already own a home. I wanted to get my masters BEFORE having a baby but I have baby fever

I am not worried about getting pregnant within a certain time frame. My Mom had me at 38 so the thought of having one later doesn't bother me. I have a lot of goals that I want to accomplish before having children.

yeah I know people say that... but Im the type not to do things all willy nilly! lol.. I already got my MBA and I would like to have a house first... so if that means holding off on kids, thats fine.. at least they will have somewhere to live when they get here I dont mind waiting... We where planning on waiting 2-3 years anyway

ITA.

I am really doing well in my career and I know pregnancy/maternity leave would bring this to a halt....also priorities shift after children and I'm not at the point where I want this. FH and I still have to travel the world- our dogs and us are enough for now. I say this and I'm 30, 31 when we're married....we're living abroad next year and wont be back in the States until I'm 34.

We'll probably wait until then. I still have oats to sow....that being said- If I got preganant on 9/19 I would be excited. Can't plan everything !

That is so awesome that you guys are doing that! That is going to be a great experience. People have babies much later in life these days. I mean some lady popped out twins at like 54!

I am also in school for my Masters in Teaching. FH wants me to get off the pill now and wants to get me pregnant asap, but I really want to wait till I am 30 to get pregnant, I am 27 now b/c of student teaching and I want to work as a teacher @ least a yr. before getting pregnant. The problem is that almost every wk FH brings it up that he want a baby now, he's only 30 going on 31 on October.

I am going to be 33 when I get married and I am in school working on my PhD- I plan to wait until I am almost finished with my degree to get pregnant. Ideally I would like to get pregnant while I am writing my thesis but who knows what will actually happen!

Re: getting pregnant

I'm in a baby predictament as well, but mine is mostly because I want to wait and I'm afraid of the oppsies.

FH is in the military with a 8 year commitment. I really don't want to be pregnant alone or raise a young child while he's deployed (Or God forbid something happens to him). I'm 21 right now so I don't want to wait all 8 years, but I'm thinking 5 would be nice because hopefully we will be done warring with the world by then.

I'm sooooo afraid of a HM baby because FH and I have spent the last 4 years in a long distance relationship, and we really just want to spend some time with just the two of us for awhile.

I've resolved myself to the idea that I can't stop it though. If God wants us to have a baby, then no amount of BC will prevent it. (My sis is a testiment to that x's 2)

I can't wait to have a baby. FH, on the other hand, seems to care less. I know I want to buy a house first but that's not a problem since we decided we're going to buy fh's dad's house which we currently live in. I want to start trying for a baby in the summer of 2010... I know it takes time for some women to get pregnant but I'm hoping to be a lucky one and get pregnant right away. I'm going to ask my doctor when I see him next how much time he recommends between me going off the pill and trying to get pregnant.

I asked my doc and she said 1-2 months max. I was surprised because I've been on the pill for almost 10 years but she said it doesn't take long at all to get out of your system.

Yep bc is metabolized right away, its hardly builds up a reserve. That is why you must take it daily and consistently in order for it to work. OBGYN told me its out of your system within days.

Re: getting pregnant

Initially I wanted kids right away, but now I don't. Luckily, I'm still really young, and knock on wood, healthy, so I do have the luxury of time. We'll probably end up trying to wait at least 1-2 years before trying, because we want to be a little selfish and enjoy finally being able to have privacy and time for ourselves and we'd like to go to Europe at least twice. Plus, I don't think FH is ready to be a father yet, and needs to mature a bit first. I'd like to see how he's able to handle being 'on his own' first before having him be responsible for another life.
