Getting pushed to start potty training..

My son will be 2 the end of January. He shows no intrest in the potty and I personally feel like he is just not at that stage yet. My fmil and ffil keep pushing me to start potty training and asking me why I am waiting so long.

I did a search on this board and found that MANY of the babies on here were potty trianed by this age. All the other children I know are older then him and not trained yet

Do not feel pressured !!!! My son was not ready until he was 3. He wanted to go to nursery school and he could not until he used the potty -
Don't let others dictate what you should do, only you know when he is ready.

Everyone always has an opinion.

Re: Getting pushed to start potty training..

I see from both sides of the coin. My 7 yr old learned to go early where as my 4 yr old in school is not completely potty trained. he can not poop in the potty. he knows he is going but rather sit in the corner then go if he pees he goes to the bathroom. I suggest just starting do not push him get him familiar and just go abnout it at a certain pace. A cute book or video is the I think 'Where's my potty' the book has a flushing noise button on the front. They make them for boys and girls which is ideal.

My son did not want to sit on the potty at all, he would cry and throw fits, I didn't want to push him. All the sudden it was like a switch, he fell asleep at the beach one night with no diaper on and stayed dry the night, woke up went on the potty and from that day on was potty trained - my DH and I were completely amazed and have no idea what had happened - everyone told me that when he was ready he would just do it - they were completley correct, I thought they were crazy, and I was beginning to think I was going to be changing diapers forever. The worst thing you can do is push them too much about potty training. One of my sons friends is a little older and still cannot stay dry through the night and I swear it's because his Mom made a HUGE deal about potty training too early. Your son will do it in his own time, just encourage him, put him on the potty some times and make a big deal if he goes.
Good luck! I know how frustrating it is!

Re: Getting pushed to start potty training..

Ive made the potty available and big girl undies available to Emma since she was about 2 maybe a little younger. Sometimes she goes and sometimes she doesnt. I am not pressuring her in any way to go 100% of the time on the potty. Sometimes she does and sometimes she doesnt. Dont listen to anyone but yourself you are the mommy!!
