getting ready at a hotel?

getting ready at a hotel?

so, my apt. is not exactly appointed well. I mean, it's not horrible, but in photos is definitely won't come off looking that hot with me all dolled up.

fh suggested that I stay at the Marriott in downtown Brooklyn (equidistant to the church as my house) b/c we both think it will look better.

my problem is three fold-

first- the expense ($200 per night)

second- me being a pig, I of course realize that I will be that much further from my bakery and I KNOW i'm going to want my yummy coffee the morning of

third- I don't think I am sentimentally attached to getting ready inside my house, BUT I am kind of attached to the vision I have in my head of stepping OUT of my home, onto my stoop, in my wedding gown and having people that have known or seen me for years see me in my dress. I feel corny even thinking about it, but it did strike me. In reality, probably very few people will be around, and I'll be looking across the street to the nasty apt building...

so anyway, what do you girls think? do I book a room or no?

That's tough-if I were in your situation I would probably get ready at home. This way you will sleep better (maybe) and it will be more sentimental and you can get your coffee . Don't worry about the pictures, I am sure the background will look just fine.

I have to get ready at my FIL's house-it will be weird-not really excited about that-but no other choice really.

All of the getting shots I have seen are close ups, so you don't really see the room. The only getting ready shot that may be affected in the shot of your dress hanging in the window or closet. I'm sure your photographer is experience enough to know how to take the right shots for the space. I wouldn't worry, especially if the hotel costs too much and you have a vision of yourself on your stoop.

If I were you, I would tell the photographer in advance so that he/she knows what to expect and can formulate a plan.

I've also had that corny vision of getting ready at 'home' (altho I don't live there anymore), coming down the stairs in my lovely dress, and taking pics on the front lawn. Not to take anything away from the girls who get ready at hotels, but it just doesn't seem right to me. There's something I'm looking forward to of getting ready in my childhood home, then after we're married going to our apartment, kind of symbolic of taking that step in adult life. HTH!!

Do it at your apartment! I agree w/the above post - the shots are close up and the ones that are from afar still focus on the main subject.

I would NOT waste money on the marriott like that.

I would get ready at home. BUt I'm probably not the best one to ask considering that one of the only reasons I'm getting married on LI (crazy, I know) is so that I can get ready in the house that I grew up in. It's just what I always envisioned.

I'd say do it at home...most of the photos are close up, and you'll probably be more comfortable and relaxed on your big day.

I'm getting ready at a hotel near my church for several reasons:

1. Nicer to get ready in (hopefully)
2. No mess in my house day of
3. Can order room service and relax the morning of
4. Will have all the BM and both mothers stay with me the night B4 (avoid late arrivals)
5. Closer to the church because I'm always running late!!! (FH reason)
6. Thought it would be nice for me and the girls to have a night to just relax and do girl stuff, plus keep me SANE.

Re: getting ready at a hotel?

me and my fi have been going over this just this week...

we live together, so I am staying at my mom's the night before...

his mother and father, sister and brother in law are staying at a nearby hotel....

my fi and his friends are getting ready at our house.... even though it's small... I didn;t want his whole family there as I figure I will have all the honeymoon clothes all over the place...
do what will make you comfortable... and when you think about it later, will you be happy you got ready there???? then you'llhave your answer....

I have to agree!
My apart. is small, too small for 15+ people.
I thought the shots would be nicer at a hotel too.
Never know with rain but the hotel lobby is very pretty and we could use that for pictures.
I am sleeping at my place and the day of getting ready at the hotel in teh afternoon.
Good Luck! whichever way you decide to go!

Me and the girls are probably going to opt for a hotel too. My FH and I live together and one of us is going to have to go. - plus I am sure my apartment will be a crazy disaster by the time the wedding rolls around - so yup hotel for me.

I may be getting ready in a hotel for one MAJOR REASON...NO AC in my house (except 2 bedrooms) I want to be comfortable and want everyone else to be comfy too!

First...I know where you're coming from. Trust me. I was worried because my apartment was a MESS (hello, sewing machine in the middle of the floor...fabric, thread, oil! ). Did you see me doing dishes? yeah, it wasn't ideal!! But, the photographer (the same one as you! ) made the best of it and I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome.

Second...I hear you on the vision thing. I wanted to leave that place in my dress (and that wasn't even where I grew up...I just wanted to do that! LOL) and I have to tell you, stepping out was almost a religious experience. Want proof?

Stepping out of my building...do I look happy?

Look at my preparation pictures in my review...notice how the focus is on YOU!!

Save the money Jess...

thanks ladies.

Sasha, you are so right. I love your pics and all the hubbub that was going on in your house. I always think of YOU and not what was around you.

and the way you LOOK in your stepping out pics is the way I FEEL I will LOOK...

I think I will save my money! Thanks so much.

You will look a million times better...you just radiate happy that day. Everyone told me that. Let go of ANY stress the moment you leave your house (no dwelling or fighting...just leave it all to God - you're getting married!!!)...I promise you a flawless happy day.

I'm so happy I was able to help!!
