Gift Card Box
Re: Gift Card Box
I didn't want one so I wrapped a present to look like a wedding gift and cut a slit near the bow and put the cards in there. I cost me almost nothing.

Re: Gift Card Box
I did have a gift card box at my wedding, but I can see what you mean. Anytime I am pointing someone in a direction to give something to me I feel a little funny. I got over it QUICK but for a while there I thought registering was tacky. I'm just uncomfortable about accepting things from others in general. People loved my card box and we received a ton of compliments on it! Good luck with whatever you decide!

Re: Gift Card Box
I don't think it's tacky at all. I know many people including myself are relieved to be able to drop the card, which often doesn't fit in your purse or date's jacket pocket, as soon as soon as you get into the reception. If guests still want to hand the card to the bride or groom, they don't have to direct the guest to the box they can accept it and drop it in the box themself or hand it off to a BM to do it. It's all a matter of presentation I think and personally we're doing the bridal mailbox.

Re: Gift Card Box
I got the same card box at lillian vernon, and you can rent them at places too.
Re: Gift Card Box
I had the same box from Lillian Vernon. My aunt decorated it with fake flowers. It looked beautiful.

Re: Gift Card Box
I do not agree with the box either. I want to be able to accept the gift and thank the person for coming. I think its a little impersonal to have the box. Just my opinion.
Re: Gift Card Box
I got the same Lillian Vernon Cake Box and plan on decorating it with flowers also. I don't think it is tacky as long as it is not presented in a tacky way. I am not using mine for guests to use as a 'drop box', I am using it to store the cards after we receive them personally from the guests. There will be two tables behind the dais - one to the right with the cake, and the other will hold the wedding card cake box.
Re: Gift Card Box
At first I was against it too thinking it looked tacky. I ended up using Kelly6273's beautiful cake box and LOVED it!!! I don't know how many people went over and actually put them in themselves, they still gave us most of them, but it was a GREAT help to us. I didn't want to carry around a bag (I feel that looks just as tacky=JMO) so when people gave us a card a we gained a few we would unload them into the box. They've been at all the recent weddings we've been too.
Re: Gift Card Box
I had a small card box that I got at Michaels that was on a small table behind the dais not out for people to drop cards in but for us to put them in to keep them all together.

Re: Gift Card Box
I'm going the old fashioned route...the envelope bag...plus I feel it's more personal..since I can thank them for coming ..I don't care for the whole 'deposit your card here' ...IMO
Re: Gift Card Box
I don't believe in a 'deposit it here' approach either, I think any type of a gift collecting device- whether it be a box or a bag can look very tacky if not handled in an appropriate manner. The most important thing is to make the situation as subtle as possible without looking like you are out to collect. It's all about how one handles the situation. My aunt went to a wedding where the bride had a mailbox standing next to her for the envelopes, and my aunt felt it was tacky. As long as a method is unobtrusive, it will not be tacky.
Re: Gift Card Box
WE have the same Lillian Vernon cake. It is going to be behind were we sit, so it won''t be imppersonal at all...
Re: Gift Card Box
I don''t think a card box or bird cage is tacky at all. However, I went to a wedding once where they had a spotlight on the bird cage.. Now THAT is tacky!
